2028 Subaru Getaway Preview

Updated September 14, 2026

Lyn Woodward is a Los Angeles-based writer, producer and on camera reviewer, evaluating new sheet metal. Driver’s Ed was the easiest A she ever earned, maybe that’s because she learned how to shift her mom’s manual 1977 Toyota Corolla SR5 liftback from the passenger seat when she was just 14. She's the proud owner/mechanic of a 1967 Porsche 912 that she’s restoring herself. She’ll talk about cars with anyone and loves helping people figure out which car is right for them. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, MotorTrend, Automobile Magazine, Hagerty Driver’s Club, Hooniverse, Panorama Magazine, The Drive and many more. Before writing about cars, she answered Hollywood’s call and wrote three made-for-television movies. Her superpowers are parallel parking and folding fitted sheets.

The 2028 Subaru Getaway should deliver on its name as it’s a 3-row electric vehicle (EV) that can haul the entire family. And haul it will with its 420 horsepower hitting 60 mph from a standstill in less than five seconds. All-wheel drive (AWD) comes standard as does a 14-inch multimedia screen and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

It was recently delayed and changed from a 2027 to a 2028 model year. Despite that setback, the Subaru Getaway looks to be a compelling EV from a company that’s currently swinging big and hitting home runs with its all-electric options. Subaru hasn’t hinted at pricing yet, but we expect it to start in the high $50,000 to low $60,000 range. Here’s what we know about the Getaway so far.

What's New for 2028

The Getaway is an all-new model from Subaru.

Subaru Getaway Pricing

Subaru have not indicated or hinted at pricing. Based on their other products and competitors, we’re estimating it to start anywhere from $55,000 to $60,000.

Driving the Subaru Getaway

We have not driven the Getaway yet, but here are some details that should inform our impressions when that time comes. It gets 8.3-inches of ground clearance and Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. It comes with X-Mode, that’s Subaru’s all-terrain management system that gives you drive modes to help get you over Snow/Dirt or Deep Snow/Mud as well as hill descent control. So, the Subaru Getaway should be able to truly get you and your family or friends away.

That it can do it in style and quickly, well, that’s a bonus. For an EV of this size, a zero-to-60 time of under five seconds sounds impressive. You’ll also be able to tow up to 3,500 pounds.

A 95.8 kWh battery can charge up to 150 kW and get from 10%-80% range in 30 minutes. Total range is estimated by Subaru at about 300 miles. Following the launch there will be a standard range model equipped with a 77 kWh battery that will reduce range but cost less.

Like their other EVs, there is a battery pre-conditioner on board to keep things charging quickly in temps nearing 14-degrees. The Subaru Getaway will come NACS equipped so charging shouldn’t be too challenging with the Tesla Supercharger Network.

Interior Comfort

The interior of the Getaway looks decidedly upscale. It’s not your rough and rugged Subaru. It has seating for up to seven, but you can option yours with two second-row captain’s chairs. A bench seat can accommodate three child seats with the LATCH system. The third row only accommodates two, which seems sensible. Those two could be six-feet tall, it’s that roomy. The second row is easily folded for third-row access, and a power-folding third row comes on every Getaway.

The tech in the Getaway looks impressive, with a 14-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Those are both standard across all trim levels. But as techie as it is, you do get physical buttons. Those do not appear on the Uncharted and Trailseeker, so it’s pleasing to see them here.

The Getaway gets wireless Smartphone integration, USB-C chargers, and ambient lighting, which should appeal to those who appreciate setting a mood. Three-zone climate control and heated front seats also come standard. You can opt for heated second- and third-row seats as well as ventilated front- and second-row seats. A heated steering wheel comes optional depending on trim.

You, of course, get Subaru’s EyeSight suite of safety features standard with some more advanced ones like Intelligent Park assist and a digital rearview mirror on higher trims.

Out back, not the Outback kind of out back but the cargo kind, you’ll enjoy 45.6 cu-ft of space.
