Subaru’s upcoming 3-row electric SUV, the Getaway, will launch as a 2028 model instead of the previously announced 2027 model. A Subaru representative confirmed the change to Kelley Blue Book editors, and according to the brand’s website, the Getaway will now launch next spring.
The Getaway was first unveiled at the New York International Auto Show earlier this year, where Subaru called the crossover its most spacious EV ever made and its “most powerful” production vehicle ever.
The model-year punt does not seem to come with significant updates to the vehicle itself. Subaru has released little additional information since the New York debut, meaning shoppers can still expect a 3-row electric SUV with standard all-wheel drive (AWD), more than 300 miles of estimated range, and seating for up to seven.
We don’t yet have pricing information for the model, but we do know it will be offered in three trims: Premium, Limited, and Touring. It boasts 420 horsepower, 8.3 inches of ground clearance, and up to 3,500 pounds of towing capacity.
The Subaru Getaway is built in partnership with Toyota. The two brands have long collaborated on vehicles, including the Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 sports cars, and the Subaru Uncharted and Toyota C-HR electric SUVs.
Subaru’s Getaway is built on the same platform as Toyota’s new Highlander EV. However, despite delays, Toyota still plans to release the Highlander EV as a 2027 model, with it slated to arrive in the first quarter of 2027.
