2027 Volvo EX60 Review

Sean Tucker

Updated March 23, 2026

Sean Tucker is the Managing Editor for Compact and Full-Size Vehicles at Kelley Blue Book. He has covered the intersection of the automotive, insurance, and energy industries for more than a quarter of a century. His work has appeared in The Washington Post, U.S. News and World Report, Yahoo Autos, MSN, and on CNN and the BBC. He believes in journalism as a service, whether reporting from Capitol Hill or evaluating a car from the track. He has degrees in philosophy and creative writing, and a habit of talking everyone into spending less on a car. He reports from Washington, D.C., where, if he’s not writing, you’ll find him on a hiking trail.

The 2027 Volvo EX60 will be both a midsize electric SUV and a new direction for Volvo. Pricing starts at $59,795.

The 2027 Volvo EX60 will be an all-electric luxury SUV with Volvo’s handsome minimalist styling, up to 670 horsepower, and some remarkably advanced in-cabin technology, including an AI-powered voice assistant that can use the car’s cameras to “see” the world around it. Volvo hasn’t revealed pricing, but says to expect a figure “around $60,000.”

Volvo’s best-selling product is the well-reviewed XC60 compact SUV. So, it’s only natural that, as the company moves further into electric vehicles (EVs), it would build a similar electric product.

But the 2027 Volvo EX60 is not simply an electric XC60. It’s an all-new vehicle from the ground up, and the company is using it to introduce some entirely new technologies.

We’ve seen the car and interviewed Volvo executives about it, and expect our first chance to drive it soon. In the meantime, here’s what we know.

What's New for 2027

The EX60 is an entirely new product on an entirely new platform, sharing few parts with other Volvos – not even other Volvo EVs.

2027 Volvo EX60 Pricing

The 2027 Volvo EX60 has a starting sticker price of $59,795, with the range-topping EX60 Ultra kicking off at $66,395.

Driving the Volvo EX60

Volvo says every EX60 will be all-wheel drive (AWD). The car is built using a mega-casting process that forms its entire structure from a few, very large parts, with the battery serving as an integral part of the structure. This is how Tesla builds its newest cars, and tends to create a car with firm handling that is exceptionally quiet (though it can make repairs expensive).

Volvo calls the EX60 one of the quickest cars it has ever made, with some variants reaching 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds. It’s also set to charge quickly, adding more than 170 miles of range in just 10 minutes when connected to a 370 kW fast charger (though we should note that those are rare in the U.S.).

Volvo predicts a range of up to 400 miles between charging sessions. The EPA has not weighed in on that prediction.

A P12 high-performance variant will arrive late in the year, and a light off-roader, the EX60 Cross Country, is to follow in 2028.

Interior Comfort

Volvo EVs tend to take minimalism to extremes, which can create a serene space or a frustrating one, depending on how you feel about touchscreens. Nearly everything will run through a large central touchscreen in the EX60, with a thin ribbon of screen above the steering wheel communicating vital info to the driver.

The EX60 will also feature a new “multi-adaptive safety belt” that adjusts its tension based on the size of the wearer and the forces of an accident.

But the showstopper technology is a virtual assistant. Many luxury cars in the 2027 model year will have AI-powered assistants that can hold conversations with you. Volvo’s is unique, the company says, in that it has access to the car’s cameras and can talk to you about the world around you.

Nerd out with us for a moment because it’s cool – Volvo calls the new processor the system uses “Hugincore.” In the ancient religion of the company’s native Sweden, Hugin was one of two magical ravens that circled the world daily to bring the god Odin all of human knowledge. It’s not a bad analogy for a web-enabled voice assistant, if a slightly gothic one. The bird did it with magic. The car does it with Google Gemini.
