The 2026 Subaru Uncharted is a well-stocked, fully electric subcompact SUV. Pricing starts at $36,445.

The 2026 Subaru Uncharted is a fully electric subcompact SUV. It is one of two electric vehicle (EV) models scheduled to join the Solterra in Subaru’s lineup for 2026. The other is the larger Trailseeker. Sharing a platform with the 2026 Toyota C-HR, the Uncharted will be available with front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). Subaru says the Uncharted has an available range of more than 300 miles. A nimble and efficient people mover that’s roughly the size of the popular Crosstrek, the Uncharted will appeal to technology-conscious buyers with an eye on value and utility.

What's New for 2026

All new for 2026, the Subaru Uncharted will land in showrooms as the brand’s entry-level electric SUV. Although it’s arguably an EV version of the similarly sized Crosstrek, it has more in common with the new Toyota C-HR than the Crosstrek. Being in a league with the C-HR isn’t a bad thing, by the way. Subaru makes the Uncharted more accessible by offering it in a front-wheel-drive configuration; however, Subaru says it will produce the front-wheel-drive version in limited numbers.

On-Sale Date

Subaru expects to release the Uncharted in early 2026.

2026 Subaru Uncharted Pricing

The 2026 Subaru Uncharted has a starting sticker price of $36,445, with the range-topping Uncharted GT kicking off at $45,245.

We don’t have detailed trim-level content on which to calculate what we think the best value is among the trims based on our estimated prices. However, because Subaru is limiting the number of Premium FWD models it will produce, we suspect the sweet spot will be the Sport. It and the GT arrive with standard all-wheel drive.

As for rivals, take your pick. Similarly sized and priced are the Hyundai Kona Electric, the aforementioned C-HR, the Kia Niro EV, and the Volvo EX30.

Power, Ride, and Handling

Because we believe the Sport will be the volume seller, let’s start there. Using Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with X-Mode, the Sport and GT proffer a dual-motor arrangement generating a total output of 338 horsepower. This is sufficient to allow a sprint from zero to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds by Subaru’s count. That’s faster than the Kona Electric and Niro EV.

The single-motor Premium FWD grade develops 221 hp.

Among the components shared by the C-HR and the Uncharted is Toyota’s well-seasoned TGNA architecture underpinning them. We are big fans. Common characteristics of the vehicles already using this platform are competent handling and well-above-average ride quality. We expect nothing less from the Uncharted. We’ll provide our thoughts once we’ve spent some time with it.

Range and Charging

A big plus for the Uncharted is, it comes with a North American Charging System (NACS) port, which is the Tesla-style connector growing in availability and popularity. Whether one motor or two, the Uncharted can top off its battery from 10% to 80% charge in about 30 minutes at a DC fast charger.

The maximum estimated range for the Uncharted Premium FWD grade is more than 300 miles, while the all-wheel-drive Sport and GT trims offer an estimated maximum of 290 miles. These are the same range numbers as the C-HR, and better than the Kona Electric’s 261 miles.

Advanced Interior

The limited photos published by Subaru show a nicely sculpted dashboard with an upright 14-inch touchscreen prominently placed in its center. By the way, there are physical controls for the audio volume and temperature setting.

Behind the squared-off steering wheel is a digital gauge display. A two-tiered center console houses the dual wireless charging beds, the X-Mode switch, and the large round drive-selector knob on the upper level. Beneath is a storage cubby. A convenient touch is that the console storage box lid opens either to the right or left for easy access by the driver or passenger.

Subaru hasn’t published any measurements for legroom, cargo room, and so on. However, we believe the Uncharted will match the C-HR’s 25.4 cubic-feet of space behind the rear seat, which is about average in the subcompact SUV segment.

Fluid Exterior

Looking more like the upcoming Trailseeker than the Crosstrek, the Uncharted shows off its muscle with lots of sharp angles and creases in the sheet metal. 18-inch wheels are standard for the two lower trims, while 20-inch wheels fill in the corners of the GT.

Our Favorite Features and Tech

Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
Standard across the board, the ability to integrate phones into the infotainment system without using a cable is wonderfully convenient.

EyeSight
This set of advanced safety features is standard in every Uncharted. It includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, plus the ability to detect not only pedestrians but also cyclists (in low-light conditions), motorcyclists (in daylight), and guardrails. Blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, front cross-traffic alert, and more are also included.

NACS charge port
This Tesla-style charge port opens the Uncharted to more than 15,000 Tesla Supercharger stations across the nation.

Wireless phone charging
Capable of making the front-seat passenger’s eyes light up, the Uncharted provides dual wireless phone chargers in the center console. Moreover, there are dual USB-C charging ports for the rear seat.

All-Weather package
Standard in every Uncharted, this package includes heated front seats, heated outboard mirrors, and windshield wiper deicer.

Power liftgate
We appreciate things that make our lives easier. Thus, a power liftgate like the one standard on every new Uncharted takes all the strain out of opening and closing the rear hatch.

Battery and Efficiency

A 74.7-kWh battery feeds a dual-motor arrangement (one on each axle) for the Sport and GT trims. The Premium FWD trim gets a single motor driving the front wheels. A preconditioning function brings the battery to an optimal temperature for DC fast charging. This is a real benefit when charging in colder temperatures.

3-year/36,000-mile Warranty

Subaru covers its vehicles with a 3-year/36,000-mile basic bumper-to-bumper limited warranty and 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain protection. This is on-par coverage among non-luxury automakers. The Solterra’s EV battery and components are warrantied for eight years or 100,000 miles; consequently, we expect the Uncharted to follow suit.

Safety

We’ll need to wait for the government and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) to test the Uncharted for formal ratings. Subaru does provide its EyeSight bundle of advanced driver aids that includes forward automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, front cross-traffic alert, and more.
