The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV is the 2021 World Car of the Year.
The only VW electric vehicle (EV) currently on the U.S. market, the ID.4 is a midsize SUV with an EPA estimated 250-mile range and up to about 300 horsepower, depending on trim level and options. We’re particular fans of the elegant light bar it uses to communicate information, unobtrusively, in the driver’s peripheral vision.
The ID.4 has a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $39,995, plus a destination fee of $1,195.
The World Car Awards are given by a jury of 93 international automotive journalists, including KBB’s own Richard Homan.
Vehicles eligible for the World Car of the Year award must be available in volumes of at least 10,000 units/year, must carry a price below the luxury-car level in their primary markets, and must be “on-sale” in at least two major markets, on at least two separate continents, between May 1, 2020, and May 1, 2021.

- Luxury Car: 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class

- Design of the Year: 2021 Land Rover Defender
