The Nissan Armada is the biggest SUV in the brand’s lineup and the most affordable option in the full-size SUV segment. This truck-like SUV packs a powerful V8 engine that is getting rarer in this class and can tow up to 8,500 pounds. The Armada is the reigning champion for our Lowest 5-Year Cost to Own Award in this class, in large part because of its reasonable starting price. The top rivals of the Armada include the Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Expedition, and Toyota Sequoia.

Driving the Nissan Armada
Unsurprisingly, the Nissan Armada drives like a big SUV. The standard V8 engine delivers confident acceleration and plenty of highway passing power. We found the on-road comfort to be pretty impressive, partially thanks to the auto-leveling suspension system. We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the noticeable body roll around tight corners, but that’s common in SUVs this size.
Although no specific off-road trims are available, the Armada is a respectable off-roader when equipped with 4-wheel drive (4WD). When equipped with 4WD, the Armada can handle just about any road condition and moderate off-roading thanks to its high ground clearance and 2-speed transfer case.
Upscale Interior
Every Armada comes with 3-row seating and room for either seven or eight passengers, depending on configuration. The third row is nice to have, but it’s tighter back there than in competitors like the roomy Ford Expedition. Second-row captain’s chairs are optional, which makes the second row more comfortable and the third row easier to access. The cargo space is also a little smaller than most SUVs in this class.
The interior quality of the Armada is good, considering its relatively modest starting price. It’s pleasantly similar to its luxurious cousin, the Infiniti QX80. The top Platinum trim rivals more expensive luxury SUVs with features like quilted leather seats, a rear entertainment system, and power-folding and reclining third-row seats.
It’s worth noting that the Armada only comes in one length. Its rivals from Chevy, Ford, and GMC all have longer versions available, which yield quite a bit more interior space.
