The striking Alfa Romeo 4C made its first appearance in concept form at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show. Now, as a production version of this mid-engine, two-seat GT is being readied for its reveal next March at the first major auto show of the 2013 European season, the automaker has released a teaser image of the vehicle. Inside sources indicate that the volume-build version — which is slated to make an appearance in the U.S. when Alfa returns here in 2013-2014 — will remain commendably true to the design brief of the original one-off.

Although the production 4C is expected to swap a good deal of the concept’s composite-intensive structure for more cost-effective aluminum, the car is still slated to tip the scales under 2,200 pounds. This new Alfa-to-be will be powered by an all-aluminum version of the automaker’s 1.7-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder expected to churn out nearly 300 horses. It will send those ponies to the rear wheels via a 6-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission. While Alfa didn’t offer any additional details on pricing or a specific on-sale date, it has confirmed that a roadster version of the 4C also will be making an appearance within a year or so after the coupe arrives in the showroom.
