Who Makes Subaru?

The automotive division of Subaru Corp. makes Subaru cars and SUVs. The Japanese multinational conglomerate is the parent to Subaru of America, based in Camden, New Jersey. North American Subaru production takes place at its assembly plant in Indiana.

Subaru brought its distinctive economy car, the 360, to the United States in 1968 and marketed it as “cheap and ugly.” Today, the company has a functional and stylish lineup of gasoline, plug-in hybrid, and electric cars and SUVs. Production of the PHEV Crosstrek ends with the 2023 model year. The 2023 Solterra is its first all-electric vehicle. Subaru has four SUV models planned for its electric vehicle (EV) lineup by the end of 2026.

Subaru models often hold spots on Kelley Blue Book’s Best Cars lists. The 2024 Subaru Impreza is ranked #1 in our list of Highest Horsepower Wagons from mainstream brands. The Best Coupes of 2023 has the Subaru BRZ ranked #2.
