Pros

  • Gorgeous interior
  • Available plug-in hybrid powertrain
  • Excellent safety scores

Cons

  • Mediocre resale value

What's New?

  • Refreshed styling
  • Revised trim structure
  • Standard mild-hybrid powertrain

If you like the idea of an all-wheel-drive wagon that also happens to be a luxury car, then the Volvo V60 could be your perfect car. The adventurous V60 Cross Country offers 8.3 inches of ground clearance, while the V60 Recharge offers a plug-in hybrid powertrain that can deliver up to 41 miles on electricity alone. The wagon body yields a roomy interior with plenty of cargo space, and it’s a luxurious cabin with comfortable seats to boot. Carrying the brand’s reputation for safety, this Volvo is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+. The V60 has few direct competitors; the only one is the Audi A4 Allroad.

2023 Volvo V60 Pricing

2023 Volvo V60 pricing starts at $34,110 for the V60 B5 Plus Cross Country Wagon 4D, which had a starting MSRP of $49,895 when new. The range-topping 2023 V60 B5 Ultimate Cross Country Wagon 4D starts at $40,633 today, originally priced from $55,195.

The Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price for any individual used vehicle can vary greatly according to mileage, condition, location, and other factors. The prices here reflect what buyers are currently paying for used 2023 Volvo V60 models in typical condition when purchasing from a dealership. These prices are updated weekly.

Driving the Volvo V60

The turbocharged mild-hybrid powertrain gives the V60 Cross Country swift acceleration, but its performance won’t blow you away. It’s worth noting that the Audi A4 Allroad and even the optional turbo engine in the Subaru Outback are more powerful than what the base powertrain in the V60 offers. However, if you prioritize luxury over performance, you’ll have no complaints about how the V60 Cross Country drives.

Its off-roading skills are better than the average luxury sedan, but it’s not exactly made for rock climbing. The standard all-wheel-drive (AWD) system and the 8.3-inch ground clearance make the V60 Cross Country capable of traversing just about any road condition, and it’s up for mild off-roading.

The V60 Recharge adds a lot of excitement thanks to its plug-in hybrid powertrain producing 455 horsepower. It still has standard AWD, but a lower ride height, which means it isn’t as much of an off-roader as the Cross Country model. On top of the boost in power and torque, it has upgraded brakes and a sport suspension with Öhlins dampers for a sportier ride.

Interior Comfort

The interior of the Volvo V60 is spacious and luxurious. The interior design is upscale, and the material quality is excellent. Leather upholstery is standard, and extra-supple Nappa leather is available. Premium standard features include a digital gauge cluster, heated front seats, and a Google-based infotainment system.

Exterior Styling

The Volvo brand has always been known for being a little off-beat, and the aesthetics of the V60 continue that reputation. The taller and more rugged V60 Cross Country looks every bit its part as the outdoor adventurer of the group, while the V60 Recharge exudes racetrack energy with a sporty aesthetic featuring a lower ride height, dark accents, and yellow brake calipers.

The size of the Volvo V60 is comparable to the Audi A4 Allroad, and it’s a bit smaller than the Subaru Outback. Its sizing is similar to a compact luxury sedan but taller and with a wagon body.

Favorite Features

1. Standard AWD
All-wheel drive significantly improves all-season traction and comes standard on every Volvo V60.

2. V60 Cross Country ground clearance
8.3 inches of ground clearance makes the Volvo V60 Cross Country taller than most luxury sedans, but not so tall that it’s hard to climb in and out of. This is enough ground clearance for mild off-roading, and it’s helpful for driving in deep snow.

3. V60 Recharge electric range
The V60 Recharge can travel up to 41 miles on electricity alone, after which point it operates as an efficient gas-electric hybrid vehicle.

4. V60 Recharge power
The V60 Recharge isn’t just the most efficient V60 in the lineup, it’s also the most powerful. The hybrid powertrain generates an incredible 455 horsepower, capable of delivering 60 mph in a blazing 4.4 seconds.

5. Roomy wagon body
The wagon body of the V60 gives this luxury car a lot of interior space. The seating is spacious enough to seat up to four adults comfortably — with room for five when needed — and it has 22.9 cubic feet of space behind the back seats. That increases to 60.5 cubic feet if you fold down the back seats.

6. Premium audio
The V60 lineup includes an available 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system.

Engine & Transmission

The new B5 powertrain in the V60 Cross Country employs a turbocharged mild-hybrid 4-cylinder engine. It strikes a pretty good balance of power and efficiency, and all-wheel drive comes standard. It sends power to the wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The V60 Recharge model uses the T8 supercharged and turbocharged plug-in hybrid powertrain making this wagon both sportier and more efficient, while retaining standard AWD.
