Pros

The Toyota RAV4 offers up the traditional values of Toyota reliability and resale value, combining it with good cargo space, a comfortable ride, and a reasonable price. The straightforward Entune audio system includes apps and Bluetooth audio streaming.

Cons

The Toyota RAV4 doesn't have the off-road chops that you'd get from a Subaru Forester, nor does it have that crossover SUV's available turbocharged power. The Honda CR-V offers an interior that's at least as flexible (and with better fuel economy), while the Ford Escape is more fun to drive.

What's New For 2015

The 2015 Toyota RAV4 arrives with a new Blizzard Pearl Premium Package for Limited models, adding a special Blizzard Pearl paint scheme coupled with new 18-inch wheels. A new Hot Lava paint color also joins the lineup, and XLE buyers can now equip their RAV4 with the power liftgate.

Used 2015 Toyota RAV4 Expert Review

The 2015 Toyota RAV4 offers very good interior materials and ergonomics, and we especially like the Entune infotainment system and the standard rearview camera. However, while the RAV4 remains a top seller, other compact crossover SUVs have surpassed it in some key areas. Fuel economy, while good, is bested by competitors like the Mazda CX-5, the all-wheel-drive Subaru Forester, and the RAV's longtime rival, the Honda CR-V. With the introduction of this generation, Toyota dropped the available V6, putting the RAV4 at a power disadvantage against the Subaru Forester and Ford Escape, both of which offer turbocharged engines with significantly more power, and are more fun to drive in general.

Driving the Used 2015 Toyota RAV4

The 2015 Toyota RAV4 offers up a comfortable and balanced ride that's quiet at highway speeds and smooth over most surfaces. The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine doesn't make a lot of power, but acceleration is acceptable if not blazing, and you'll get from a standstill to 60 mph in a little less than 10 seconds. A Sport mode doesn't add power, but it does sharpen the engine's response to the gas pedal, and it makes the 6-speed automatic transmission hold onto a gear longer into the powerband before shifting. There's also an Eco mode if you're looking to save fuel, but many of us thought the lazy throttle response was too annoying, so we kept it in the Normal mode.

Favorite Features

REAR VIEW AIDS
As fashion and safety rules emphasize thicker pillars, cars are getting harder and harder to see out of. The RAV4 comes standard with a backup camera, and ups the ante with available blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, warning you when other vehicles are approaching as you reverse.

CAVERNOUS CARGO CAPACITY
Despite being a compact crossover SUV, the Toyota RAV4 offers up a lot of cargo space behind the second row. If that's not enough, fold those seats and you'll get a class-leading 73.4 cubic feet, all of it usable thanks to a flat load floor.

Used 2015 Toyota RAV4 Interior

With high-quality plastics and soft-touch surfaces, the 2015 Toyota RAV4 offers a comfortable and inviting SUV interior. Base LE models get contrasting colors, adding an upscale look at a price level that usually sentences the buyer to blandness. However, we're not fans of the faux carbon-fiber cladding around the doorsills and gearshift lever. Interestingly, leather isn't available, substituted with something called Softex, which does a pretty good impression of the real thing. The driver's seat is comfortable and supportive, especially the Limited model with its added lumbar support. Rear-seat passengers have good legroom, and there's plenty of cargo space.

Used 2015 Toyota RAV4 Exterior

Overall, we like the looks of the newest RAV4, and its sharp lines are positively aggressive compared to previous models. Owners of those older models may notice that there's no rear-mounted spare tire on the current generation. However, despite it being a fixture since the RAV4's introduction, Toyota was smart in dropping it, since it allows for a swing-up rear door instead of the swing-out design on previous versions, making it easier to load the cargo area with groceries, or whatever else you have. A power assist is standard on Limited models, and available on XLE models this year.

Used 2015 Toyota RAV4 Standard Features

All 2015 Toyota RAV4 models come with the same 4-cylinder engine and 6-speed automatic transmission. Base RAV4 LE models come with Entune, which includes a 6.1-inch display, Bluetooth connectivity, AM/FM/CD system with six speakers, and auxiliary and USB inputs to control your iPod. XLE models add a power moonroof, upgraded Entune with satellite and HD Radio, dual-zone climate control, and better front seats with French stitching. Limited models add the power liftgate, Softex upholstery on the seats, Entune Premium audio with navigation and apps, push-button start, and more. All 2015 RAV4s have eight airbags, stability/traction control, and two years/25,000 miles complimentary maintenance.

Used 2015 Toyota RAV4 Options

All wheel drive (AWD) is available on all Toyota RAV4 models, enhancing the SUV's traction in wet weather and on dirt roads. Other options include a navigation system with Toyota's Entune telematics – which includes voice recognition and various apps for everything from making reservations to finding sports scores – JBL premium audio system with 11 speakers, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. New this year, mid-level XLE models can be ordered with the power liftgate from Limited models.

Used 2015 Toyota RAV4 Engine

The only engine available in the 2015 Toyota RAV4 is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 176 horsepower. Coupled with the standard 6-speed automatic transmission, it's enough to get the SUV from a standstill to 60 mph in a little less than 10 seconds, not exactly quick, but good enough. The standard front-wheel drive (FWD) can be replaced with an all-wheel drive system, and the RAV4 will tow up to 1,500 pounds.

How Much Does the Used 2015 Toyota RAV4 Cost?

The base price for a 2015 Toyota RAV4 LE is about $24,500, including the $885 destination charge. On the other end of the price ladder, the top-of-the-line Limited model starts with AWD and option packages can extend to more than $31,000. Those prices are right in line with competitors like the Honda CR-V and Ford Escape, two of its strongest competitors. Other compact SUVs like the Kia Sportage and Mazda CX-5 start lower, but the RAV4's simplified trim levels keep even a loaded RAV4 well below the mid- to high-$30,000 prices that afflict other vehicles in this segment, like the Volkswagen Tiguan. Be sure to check the KBB.com Fair Purchase Price to see what others in your area are paying for the new Toyota RAV4. The RAV4 should retain its value on par with the Honda CR-V and better than Ford's Escape, but below the Subaru Forester.

"Absolutely zero problems. Sti"

Will probably last 300,00 miles. Fun to drive.
Nearest dealer is 25 miles away. Oil change takes
Still runs and drives like a new car. Still has original brakes with 50% lining. Even the tires lasted 80,000 miles. The new Goodyears are better in the rain than OEM tires. Oil change interval is 10k.

"Good size, turns well, sharp looking!"

Size, driving ease, turn radius, easy to get in
Lumbar support, bit noisy, NAVIGATION & ENTUNES!
Nice size suv coming from sedan, like hatchback & leg room in back seat as we are not short people. Lumbar support is awful on any trips over an hr, gas mileage is decent as is turning radius & ride. Can’t ride w/windows open really or the buffeting noise is deafening & scary! Biggest negative is the navigation & their Entunes mess is TERRIBLE, HATE IT!

"Not what we expected."

Has new safety features, backup camera.
Poor seats, forward view is obstructed by the hood
We still own a 2003 Highlander V6 AWD base, purchased new. The 16 yr old Highlander is still twice the car that the new 2017 RAV XLE is. Even though the Highlander has 171,750 miles it is still a better car. We have only had one repair done, replaced both rear wheel bearings. The highlander has a better ride, view out the front is way better, seat comfort is better. The RAV has some additional safety features nice but not worth the trade up vs the old Highlander. We are currently looking for a 2017 Highlander.

"Horrible gas mileage"

fun To drive
Horrible gas mileage 17 city 22 highway, suspensio
I purchased a new RAV4 because I have owned seven other Toyotas and have been Very very happy but I am extremely disappointed in the performance of this particular RAV4. My average gas mileage is 17 to 18 miles per gallon which is unacceptable and I would’ve never purchased the vehicle having known it’s poor mileage. I have dealt with Toyota customer service and have not been able to resolve this issue and five other Problematic issues i.e. starter, suspension, computer glitches. Since it has no navigation system it will not connect with my new IPhone 10. This RAV4 XLE has the worst blind spot on any vehicle I have ever driven. Tailgate is manual and so it is high and heavy when it is opened and I can hardly get the trunk shut. I expected more from this SUV. Everything else I like . It is a roomy small SUV. Has good tires and traction. I have an AWD. It will alarm me if I start to cross either side of the lane I am driving in. It alerts me sometimes and helps me to stop if a vehicle in front of me stops quickly, keeping me from having an accident. But still can’t trust it. has windshield wipers on back window with washer fluid. Has spoiler and built in splash guards, also am/FM radio and CD player. Good sound system. Gas mileage is horrible at 17 city to 21 highway. Easy for children to get in back seat. Plenary of leg room. Lots of plugins for cell phone and iPad. In fry and back. Nice cargo net and plenty of room in the trunk. It’s a good size for a compact suv There's not a lot of useful storage space in the driver's area. It's pretty roomy in the back for a compact vehicle but wish we could fit 3 car seats across. Also the middle seat belt isn't very usable with the placing of the belt, we basically lose that middle seat. Great for one car seat only.Read less
