The roomy Lexus TX is one of the most family-friendly midsize luxury SUVs and offers multiple hybrid options. Pricing starts at $57,890.
The Lexus RX holds the impressive title of America’s best-selling luxury vehicle, but what if you need extra seats? That’s where the bigger, but still midsize Lexus TX comes in. It takes what everyone loves about the RX, like a comfortable interior, a plush, quiet ride, and multiple hybrid options, and brings a bigger interior with spacious 3-row seating. The 2026 model adds a few welcome upgrades like wider availability for the bold Matador Red paint option, a standard panoramic sunroof on the plug-in hybrid version, and more standard cupholders, which is always welcome in a family-oriented SUV.
We’ve spent hundreds of hours driving and evaluating this generation of luxury midsize SUVs, including the Lexus TX.
The Lexus TX has a starting price slightly higher than those of its top rivals, namely the Acura MDX and Infiniti QX60. However, when similarly equipped, it’s priced pretty close to competing midsize luxury SUVs.
Before buying a TX, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should really pay. Lexus TX resale value is toward the top of its segment. Recouping more money when selling a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on the next one.
In typical Lexus fashion, driving the TX is a pleasant experience. The base powertrain in the TX 350 is a 275-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that has more than enough pep for the daily commute and has slightly quicker acceleration when equipped with the optional all-wheel drive (AWD) system. The suspension is compliant, the steering is predictable, and the overall ride quality prioritizes comfort over sporty performance. That said, the enthusiast in us prefers the sport-tuned suspension on F Sport models.
Upgrading to the TX 500h brings a hybrid powertrain that’s both more powerful and more efficient than the TX 350. Lexus is justified in calling it a “Performance Hybrid.” The TX 500h makes a healthy 366 horsepower while returning 27 combined mpg, 4 mpg better than the non-hybrid model. Finally, there’s the TX 550h+ plug-in hybrid, the sportiest of them all, with 404 hp and a 33-mile all-electric range. With a depleted battery, it returns 29 combined mpg.
| Model | Powertrain | HP/Torque | Transmission | Max Fuel Economy |
| TX 350 | 2.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder | 275 hp/317 lb-ft | 8-speed automatic, FWD or AWD | 21 city/27 hwy/23 combined mpg |
| TX 500h | 2.4-liter turbo 4-cylinder hybrid | 366 hp/406 lb-ft | 6-speed automatic, AWD | 27 city/28 hwy/27 combined mpg |
| TX 550h+ | 3.5-liter V6 plug-in hybrid | 404 hp/247 lb-ft (gas engine only) | CVT automatic, AWD | 76 combined MPGe, 33-mile all-electric range |
It’s not always easy to combine family-friendly practicality with a genuinely luxurious experience, but that’s exactly what Lexus did with the well-crafted cabin of the TX. It has a roomy 3-row interior with a third row you can actually use, plus generous cargo space to boot.
The first and second rows are comfortable for most adults, and the third row boasts 33.5 inches of legroom. Meanwhile, there’s 20.2 cubic feet of cargo room behind the third row. Both of those numbers beat the Acura MDX and Infiniti QX60, making the Lexus TX, arguably, the midsize luxury SUV most suitable for family hauling duties.
Every luxury SUV in this class comes with its respective brand’s suite of safety and driver assistance tech features, but the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is one of our favorites because of how many standard features it bundles together. It includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, full-speed adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning with steering assist, road sign detection, and more. These features work together to bring a little extra safety and confidence to every drive.
A 14-inch central infotainment display is the centerpiece of every Lexus TX’s dashboard, accompanied by a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. These screens are feature-rich and user-friendly. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come standard, and the infotainment experience can be enhanced by an optional Mark Levinson 21-speaker audio system with PurePlay surround-sound tuning. Also, the Intelligent Assistant voice control system is one of the better ones we’ve tested. Say, “Hey Lexus,” and ask the car to navigate, change the radio station, adjust the temperature, and more.
