Volkswagen is offering unusually deep discounts on its ID.4 electric SUV this month — up to $12,500 off. The catch? That discount applies to leftover models from the 2025 model year.
The company says it has “very limited inventory” of the electric vehicle (EV) at the discounted price. Most ID.4 models currently on dealer lots are 2026 editions. Volkswagen is offering $6,000 off those models, and says inventory is limited on them, too.
There’s just one difference that matters between the 2025 and 2026 editions. The 2026 model uses a Tesla-style North American Charging System (NACS) charging port, while 2025 editions use a Combined Charging System (CCS) port.
Much of the automotive industry is gradually switching to the Tesla-style port, which is smaller and easier to plug in with one hand. But adapters allow owners to charge from either plug in public, so the different plug doesn’t introduce enough hardship to justify the price difference.
Our editors like the ID.4 for its roomy cabin. It’s known for its fairly conservative looks, which don’t scream that it’s electric, and a quirky thin LED light at the base of the windshield that communicates state of charge and turn-by-turn directions in the driver’s peripheral vision.
It may, however, be on its last legs in the U.S. Volkswagen already ceased production of the car in the U.S., and is reportedly mulling renaming it for its next generation. The company has faced a challenging 2026 and is considering a deep restructuring that could result in the elimination of several models from its lineup.
