Recall Alert: Buick Encore GX, Envista; Chevrolet Trax

General Motors issued a recall for about 60,000 Buick and Chevrolet SUVs because the screens that take the place of traditional driver’s gauges can go blank while driving.

The company tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the problem is software-related. It can “cause the instrument panel display to intermittently blackout at vehicle startup or while driving.” That would leave the driver unable to see their speed or critical safety warnings.

The company knows of no accidents or injuries related to the problem but has received 255 customer complaints. Given that all recalled models are new and have not been on the road long, that’s a relatively high number.

GM can fix the problem with a simple software update. Recall repairs are always free.
