New Airflow, is that you? Chrysler parent Stellantis may have dropped a hint about the appearance of its new Airflow SUV.
A Brief History
This is the first Airflow update since Stellantis announced its plans for 11 new models by 2030. The Chrysler Airflow concept has been around since 2022. Initial renderings showed a low-set hatchback with rounded lines and a contrast-color roof, seen above.
The name “Airflow” pays homage to the 1934 Chrysler model of the same name, which is regarded as a market failure. While that Airflow wasn’t a commercial success, it was the first mass-market car to use aerodynamic design principles.
A Hint of What’s to Come
As part of Stellantis’ pledge to bring three new midsize SUVs to market by 2030, it released a YouTube teaser trailer highlighting its powertrain approach. The Airflow was not labeled as such in the video, but it lines up with what other sources reportedly saw at Stellantis headquarters.
If this is the Airflow, it departs from the earlier concept. Gone are the rounded lines. In their place are sharp, angular edges and an overall boxy feel. LED lights dot the front grille.
Because the teaser pertained to powertrains, it also gave us a look under the hood of the potential Airflow. It appears the SUV will have an internal combustion engine.
Still Under Wraps
The video also features four other unidentified vehicles. In addition to the Airflow, Chrysler reportedly has plans for an Arrow and Arrow Cross SUV, the details of which are still under wraps. It’s suspected that these SUVs could be rebadged FIAT Grizzlys, which are set to launch outside of the U.S. later this year. An official launch date for the Airflow has not yet been set.
