Mercedes-Benz is preparing to launch the EQC, the first model from its EQ sub-brand of EVs. And while we’ve seen the new electric crossover, deliveries of the vehicle won’t begin in the United States until early next year.
Meanwhile, rival Audi is rolling out its e-tron now. What to do? To keep up the drumbeat for the EQC, Mercedes-Benz has announced a special launch model, the EQC Edition 1886.
That was the first year of the Daimler motor carriage, a seminal vehicle in automotive history, and Mercedes-Benz is drawing parallels with the import of the EQC in the company’s move toward electric vehicles.
Same setup as standard EQC
Like the standard EQC, the Edition 1886 uses two electric motors, one for each axle, providing all-wheel drive and a total 402 horsepower. The motors are fed by an 80-kWh battery pack. To date, the only range estimate that has been released is 450 kilometers (280 miles), but that’s via the European test standards, which are notoriously more optimistic than U.S. EPA estimates.
As to this special edition, its tweaks are much like those of any other launch-version trim package. The Edition 1886 is available exclusively in silver metallic with a gloss-black grille, special badging, and 20-inch wheels.
The interior is finished in a blue and black, with upholstery of MB-Tex manmade leather and Dinamica microsuede. Special silver trim and embroidered floor mats complete the look. Among the features included are a Burmester audio system and Mercedes’s Energizing Comfort package, which includes a perfume atomizer and ventilated seats, and can interface with a driver’s Garmin wearable to alter the environment inside the car based on information about a driver’s well-being.
2020 Mercedes-Benz EQC 400 4Matic priced
Mercedes has also announced pricing of the standard 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQC 400 4Matic. Models will start at $67,900 plus $995 delivery. The vehicle goes on sale in early 2020.
