The first units of the new 2017 Subaru Impreza have begun rolling off the assembly line at the automaker’s SIA (Subaru of Indiana) assembly facility plant in Lafayette. This marks the first time the Impreza has been built outside of Japan, a project made possible by a $1.3 billion investment that included hiring an additional 1,400 workers. Along with adding the new Impreza to its product mix, SIA will continue to be the primary source for Legacy and Outback models sold here. Over the past three decades, the plant has turned out almost 5 million vehicles. With its added capacity, Subaru expects SIA will turn out 380,000 new vehicles annually.
Available in both 4-door Sedan and 5-door Hatchback, new 2017 Subaru Impreza is first vehicle to be built on the new Subaru Global Platform, a strong, light and safety-focused modular architecture which will underpin all of the firm’s future vehicles. Available in four different trim levels, the new Impreza is powered by a 2.0-liter direct-injected flat-4 engine that makes 152 horsepower and is backed by a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic with seven “virtual” gears. As in the past, all models will come with the company’s signature Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. The first 2017 Subaru Imprezas will hit showrooms late this month with the base Sedan starting at $19,215 and the Hatchback opening at $19,715.
