Spawned from a 3-year cooperative effort between the automaker and premium winter-sports equipment manufacturer, K2, the BMW Concept K2 Powder Ride is slated to make its first public appearance next month at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Based on the new 2013 BMW X1 Sports Activity Vehicle that finally goes on sale here in the fall, this high-profile one-off features unique visual and functional enhancements that accentuate its active lifestyle spirit. The Concept K2 Powder Ride will be joined in LA by a limited-run production vehicle that shares many of its design sensibilities: the 2013 BMW X1 Power Ride Edition.

Finished in Valencia Orange Metallic paint complemented with custom "X-themed" graphics that reflect those found on a limited-edition K2 ski, the BMW Concept K2 Powder Ride features an exclusive milled-aluminum roof structure incorporates a trio of LED spotlights and pairs a custom ski rack on the passenger side with special luggage boxes on the driver’s side. Each unit contains Harman Kardon speakers that can be raised up to turn the K2 Powder Ride into an outdoor sound stage at a moment’s notice. Inside, Black Nappa leather with orange contrast striping is set off by Fineline Bay wood trim and other bespoke accent bits.

Functionally, the BMW Concept K2 Powder Ride is fitted with the same 300-horsepower/3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 engine, 8-speed automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel-drive system used in the top-line BMW X1 xDrive35i. However, the Concept does boast an additional 8mm of suspension travel and rides on special 19-inch lightweight alloy wheels finished in the same Ferric Grey color that also appears on other parts of the vehicle.
