While wagons are starting to make a comeback in some sectors of the U.S. auto market, it seems Porsche has finally been forced to throw in the towel after two valiant attempts. Today, the company announced updates to the 2027 Taycan sedan while quietly omitting any mention of the Cross Turismo or GTS Sport Turismo on its consumer and media sites. Here’s what you need to know.
Charge on Either Side
For starters, the 105-kWh ‘Performance Battery Plus’ now serves as the standard battery for all Taycans and features a higher peak charge rate of 320 kW. It can be charged via two separate ports on either side of the car. On the driver’s side, there is a carryover J1772 AC port for Level 1 and 2 charging. The passenger side houses a new NACS DC Fast-Charging port. This finally gives the Taycan native access to Tesla Supercharger stations, though a CCS adaptor will also be provided if you need to fast-charge elsewhere.
AI Voice Assistant
Porsche is also using the 2027 Taycan to introduce the next generation of its Digital Interaction infotainment system. It now includes improved charging and route planning, an AI-powered voice assistant, configurable widgets, and a new wireless phone charger with a more effective magnetic ring mount that delivers 25 watts of power. The software is backed by five times the computing power it had previously, enabling high-demand 3D modeling and dynamic animations. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are still on board. They now include higher levels of visual integration with the native system.
Simulated Shifts
Taking a page out of Hyundai’s N-Shift feature in the IONIQ 5 and 6 N, the new ‘E-Shift’ experience infuses the Taycan with virtual gear shifts by mimicking gas engine braking behavior and utilizing a virtual rev limiter. Those “shifts” are accompanied by Porsche Electric Sport Sound, which gives the cabin and the exterior of each Taycan variant a unique audible sensation under throttle.
Wagon Versions Gone
Then there’s the noticeable omission of the Cross Turismo or Sport Turismo body styles from the announcement. After reaching out to Porsche’s PR team for clarification about their futures, it was confirmed that they will not be returning for 2027 due to low sales. This loss follows the discontinuation of the Panamera Sport Turismo back in 2023, a similarly shaped wagon that also failed to catch on with Porsche customers. The 2027 Taycan sedan is on sale now for a starting price of $114,250 for the single-motor RWD trim, an increase of roughly $6,000.
