While Acura’s Nexera Vision Concept is taking center stage with its official unveiling today, Acura has also given a sneak peek at a prototype of its upcoming fourth-generation RDX hybrid SUV. We were able to see the vehicle along with the Nexera at a special preview last month.
The styling model wore no RDX badges, but Acura identified it as the next-generation RDX in its press materials. The vehicle offered an early look at how Acura’s new design language could reach production.
The rear lighting with slanted taillights, inspired by Acura’s “A” logo, provided the clearest look yet at the brand’s future styling direction. They also created the strongest visual link to the Nexera Vision concept.
“The SUV prototype is our first one that you’ll see details transferred to, and the most prominent feature that has translated is the lighting signature,” said Ben Davidson, Exterior Design Lead for the Nexera Vision.
Acura showed only the exterior of the RDX prototype. The mockup had no interior or powertrain. Acura did confirm that the production vehicle will be a hybrid, but the prototype served strictly as a design study. Many details could change before the vehicle reaches showrooms.
The prototype RDX suggests the Nexera Vision is more than a standalone concept. Instead, it points to Acura’s next design era, with the RDX likely leading the transition.
