Thanks to the development of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), most new cars on the road are equipped with driver assistance features like blind spot monitoring and lane keeping assist, with some models offering self-driving autonomy.
Many automotive manufacturers use different names for the same safety feature. For example, forward collision warning is probably a feature you are familiar with if you’ve driven a vehicle from 2010 or newer, and while Honda calls it “forward collision warning”, Toyota’s version is called “Pre-Collision warning”.
The point is that while you may not be familiar with the specific nomenclature of a vehicle’s ADAS, it’s clear that safety systems have become an integral part of vehicles, both from a driving perspective and from a technological standpoint. They may add complexity to the vehicle, but they are essential to improved driving safety and the characteristics of every car on the road today, and they continue to grow in prominence as government legislation and safety regulations become increasingly established.
