"I bought my 1991 940 Turbo for my mother in 1995 when it had about 55,000 miles on it. Later, she bought a newer vehicle and I kept the Volvo. It now has over 204,000 miles on it and still runs like a purring kitten in all kinds of weather. I routinely drive it across country and have no qualms about jumping in it and driving 1,000 miles or more...in snow, ice, heat or rain. Routine maintenance and oil changes are about all I've ever had to do to it and it has never left me stranded. I changed the timing belt at 100,000 miles (as a precaution) and replaced a leaking radiator with an upgraded version of the factory installed one. There is a little more wind-noise in these older versions at highway speeds, but I can live with that. Highway mileage is in the low 20s, even with the turbo.
All the gizmos still work without flaws - heated seats, power windows, power locks, etc. I upgraded the sound system to XM and installed a car alarm but that is all the after-market work I've ever done.
Without doubt one of the best investments I've ever made in a vehicle. In fact, I bought a 240, a 740 and one of the prototypes of the T5R because this 940 Turbo has been so reliable."
"I absolutely love this car. This car has been in my family since I was 9 and now I'm 29. As with any car parts ware out and need to be replaced but this car has really been a trooper. With proper care it has handled 20 years of beach trips, 6 grand kids, and dog and never missed a beat. Although it's a wagon it handles more like well refined sedan. The cornering is excellent, the ride is very smooth and the seats even after 264k miles are still comfy and sportive on long trips. Being a Volvo it's very safe and sturdy car. Even though this is a wonderful car there are a few negatives. First and foremost who ever thought it was a good idea to make a family wagon with no cup holders was not thinking! The acceleration is not the best in world but remember this is a family station wagon not a Ferrari. The car is very reliable but eventually things break down and when they do repair bills get steep quick. On a more positive note the car is Very fuel efficient for what it is. I have achieved 27 mpg on long highway trips. I know that doesn't sound like allot when you compare it to a 40 mpg economy car but this is a 2 ton family wagon that was a luxury car in its day. I highly recommended this car to any one who is looking for a good solid reliable car that they can enjoy for years to come."
"I love my car and am disappointed to see the value of it is so low. This is such a safe and reliable vehicle. It's roomy and comfortable without feeling like a couch on wheels. The trunk has room for bikes, boxes and my groceries."
