Everything about the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe is new this year. It now rides on an all-new frame derived from the new-for-2014 Chevrolet Silverado. The engines have been upgraded with advanced technology to improve horsepower and fuel economy, and the new interior could be out of luxury sedan.

The Chevy Tahoe has no major changes for 2013. It just gets a higher-capacity battery and a couple of new exterior colors, and the grade braking function, which uses engine compression to help slow the vehicle when going down hills, now works in the normal transmission mode instead of only in the Tow/Haul setting.

The Tahoe and Yukon Hybrids represent GM's best hope of keeping its lucrative full-size truck and SUV sales alive. If successful, the two-mode hybrid technology used on both trucks will likely find its way into other Chevrolet and GMC models, including the Silverado, Sierra and Suburban. Until someone finds a way to make steel as lightweight as paper, GM's hybrid technology offers the best hope for improved fuel economy without the need to sacrifice power.

The Tahoe has been completely re-designed and re-engineered for the 2007 model year, and in its new trim it is in all ways better than the previous version, which was the segment leader.

About Chevrolet Tahoe

While the 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe may remain king of the full-size SUVs, its Chevrolet badge no longer means it’s guaranteed to be the most affordable choice. Fresh from a complete overhaul last year, Chevrolet’s mammoth family hauler is the best it’s ever been, with an impressive array of safety, luxury and technology features that makes it feel more Caddy than Chevy. However, if you don’t need the towing power of the Tahoe, most families can get by in a less expensive and more efficient 7-passenger crossover SUV like the Chevrolet Traverse. For those who do need a full-size V8-powered SUV, a base-model Nissan Armada offers similar power and towing for about $9,000 less.

Outer Banks, NC 2016

"I traded in my wife's 2015 Honda Pilot for this car and gave my wife my Toyota 4Runner to drive. I've had it for about two months, commuting 90 miles/day in DC area traffic. I also took a trip to the Outer Banks of NC (775 miles round trip). So far, I love it. Truck looks big on the outside, but drives much smaller, as the handling/steering is great. I was able to get 50 mile increments where my mpg was above 23 mpg.. That is pretty amazing, although the mpg in bumper to bumper traffic is about what you'd expect in the mid to high teens. Pick up is good, although you have to hit the throttle fairly hard at first, as it is not sensitive when you first accelerate, clearly an effort to increase fuel economy. The exterior is really good looking. I was surprised at the quality of the interior as well. The only negative that is worth mentioning is the high load level in the back, a result of a live rear axle. With 3 dogs, it's tough loading them in. Heavy luggage should be left to the taller in your group. I took the Tahoe on the beach in the OBX. Those familiar with the Outer Banks know Corova Beach (4x4 area) is fun, but can be challenging for AWD and even 4H. The Tahoe went through even the highest sand without issue (I do have the Z71 with all terrain tires). It was a ball! Despite the sticker price ($60k+), I think this truck is a definite buy. They put together a great package. Kudos to GM."

"I have thought about a Chevy Tahoe for quite some time and finally went for it at the end of February, The truck gas been great - powerful, nice ride, and handles well. I have the LT with luxury package, sun and sound, 2nd row buckets and 20 inch rims - looks impressive! I have averaged 19 mpg in a combination of highway and suburban driving. Chevy did a great job on the interior - extremely comfortable with easy to see instruments and easy to operate controls - one need not go through numerous screens just to change the radio station! I am not a fan of the lane-keeping assist and have turned it off."

"Only problem I have is with the electronic throttle. Takes some getting used too."
