Looking for a car that’s practical, efficient, but still engaging to drive? The 2026 Honda Civic Hybrid makes a great case for itself.
Efficiency
Out of the gate, the latest Civic Hybrid scores up to 49 mpg combined in sedan form, or up to 48 mpg combined as a hatchback. Both variants score 50 mpg in the city, while the sedan gets 47 mpg on the highway to the hatchback’s 45 mpg.
Those are excellent marks for fuel economy, but it’s easy to get good gas mileage if you sacrifice power and performance. Lucky for us, Honda didn’t do that — in fact, the Civic Hybrid is among the most powerful production, non-Type R version of the Civic that Honda has built, rivaling the Civic Si performance variant.
Punchy Power
That’s right, despite the stellar gas mileage, the Civic Hybrid also gets a 200-horsepower, dual-motor hybrid electric drivetrain. Don’t let the dual-motor thing fool you, however; the Civic Hybrid is front-wheel-drive (FWD) only. There’s no available all-wheel drive (AWD).
Not that you’ll be missing it, at least in performance terms. The Civic Hybrid’s punchy powertrain makes great use of the available traction, and the Civic’s taut, balanced platform means driving is fun in the corners, too.
Best of Both Worlds?
Given that the two available Civic Hybrid trims (Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid) are both clustered right around the $30,000 mark regardless of body style, the Civic Hybrid is a strong value for a new sedan, especially considering its balance of performance and efficiency.
