The Subaru Uncharted is a new electric SUV from Subaru, and it’s the outdoorsy brand’s most affordable and efficient EV. The segment of small electric SUVs starting under $40,000 is growing, which is good news for anyone in the market for an EV that won’t break the bank. The Uncharted manages to stand out in a growing field of competitors.
Here are a few of our favorite things about the 2026 Subaru Uncharted.
1. EyeSight
Subaru’s EyeSight safety tech suite bundles desirable features such as automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, and a driver-monitoring distraction mitigation system. These and other safety tech features earn the Uncharted the top “Good” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the front crash prevention categories of its safety testing.
2. NACS charge port
The Uncharted comes with a North American Charging System (NACS) port, which is the Tesla-style connector that allows for DC Fast Charging at the expansive Tesla Supercharger network without needing an adapter. However, it can still charge with a CCS plug thanks to an included adapter, maximizing public charging accessibility. Another reason to love the NACS port is that it uses a nice, slim plug that’s easy for small hands to operate.
3. Sport trim
The midrange Sport trim is in the sweet spot of the Uncharted’s model range. It has an upgraded powertrain over the base trim, with all-wheel drive (AWD) and 338 horsepower, which is a lot for an SUV this size, making it delightfully quick while remaining super efficient. Other perks include dual-function X-Mode that makes it a competent off-roader, StarTex faux leather upholstery, a panoramic-view camera, and a heated steering wheel, all in the low-$40k price range.
