About Porsche Macan

A small SUV with big horsepower and athletic handling, the 2018 Porsche Macan offers families an impressive mix of utility and invigorating performance. All-wheel drive is standard while the Macan’s wide range of available engines offers as much as 440 horsepower. Five models are offered, Macan, Macan S, Macan GTS, Macan Turbo and Macan Turbo with Performance Package. With a base price of around $50,000, the Porsche’s key competitors include the Audi Q5, Jaguar F-Pace, Mercedes GLC, BMW X3 and the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio. But the Macan Turbo models are big bucks starting around $79,000. Better viewed as a tall, all-wheel-drive (AWD) hatch than rugged off-roader, the Macan is aimed at those seeking SUV functionality and sports-car performance. But its utility is limited. Cargo space is less than its rivals.

"I love everything about this car. Traded in a 2017 BMW M4 as it rode two harshly and was too close to the ground. I have owned 3 BMWs, several Audis, and other makes. This car is special because it allows you to have your cake (ride height of an SUV) and eat it too (acceleration and handling with more comfort) of a sports car. Outstanding."

"I just bought the new 2017 Macan base model inSeptember with many luxury options. This is my 3rd Porsche , prior a Boxter and a 944. This car drives like a dream, it feels like and drives like the base 911. I was not looking to get a speed demon so the base model is all I needed, I was looking more for handling, driving experience, confort and space. Since most of the sport cars didn't fit my needs, this one fit the bill. I went looking for a Q5 coming from owning many Lexus RX's , but the Q5 even though more sportier than the Lexus, still felt about the same. The Macan didn't after I test drove it and I was hooked. The price point is a little more than those mentioned but close enough to make the decision. You give up a little in size and space in the rear seat but for us it was good enough. Trunk space is very large for this size SUV and it was not an issue at all. you will love this car, its the most fun i have had driving in a long time. The most impressive thing is that you don't give up confort in the front seats to any rival. If you get the Premium Plus Package the seats and audio are incredible. If its your budget test dive it, and you will see what I mean. The Sport mode is even more fun, but i hardly need to use it since the regular setting is fast enough for everyday use. If you are going to race it in a track then you can go for the higher engine models, but 0 to 60 in 6 seconds is fast for most responsible adults."

Pros: "Great handling and ride"

Cons: "Electronics are poor and service costs high"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 8

"I test a lot of cars. The Macan had the best ride. It handled well. Cargo space was limited. Electronics second class. Performance not Porsche like at all. It isnt slow, but you have to spend tens of thousands more to upgrade to a Turbo for more thrust. I would never buy a Jaguar F-Pace. Horrible ride. The Range Rovers have no resale and poor quality. Audi is okay. Ford, forget it. Major problems. Chevrolet okay. Volvo is just silly. Before you even consider a Volvo check out the replacement part costs and servicing costs. Expect low reliability and no resale. So, the Macan is your best bet if you like the handling and ride."
