The Jeep Wagoneer L is a full-size SUV with a huge 3-row interior, impressive towing muscle, and the off-road chops we expect from a Jeep. Pricing starts at $65,040.
The Jeep Wagoneer L brings authentic Jeep character to a full-size SUV with a spacious 3-row interior, class-leading towing capacity, and the off-road capabilities you expect from the brand. Go ahead and bring the whole crew along for the adventure; the Wagoneer L has an adult-friendly third row of seats and more cargo room behind the third row than any of its rivals. But the Wagoneer L is so much more than a utilitarian family hauler. The upper trims get pretty luxurious with niceties like Nappa leather seats and one of the finest premium audio systems we’ve ever tested. Whether it’s your first Jeep or you’re a longtime devotee of the brand, you’ll find something to love in the Jeep Wagoneer L.
We’ve spent hundreds of hours driving and evaluating this generation of full-size SUVs, including the 2025 Jeep Wagoneer L.
In addition to a price cut, the 2025 Jeep Wagoneer L gets a new set of standard wheels, which are now 20 inches in diameter. Also newly standard are adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. Previously restricted to the pricier Grand Wagoneer L, the non-Grand version is now available with power-folding mirrors.
The 2025 Jeep Wagoneer L has a starting sticker price of $65,040, with the range-topping Wagoneer L Series III kicking off at $79,040. But Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing currently suggests paying $3,187 to $4,348 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment. These prices are updated weekly.
MSRP | KBB Fair Purchase Price (national avg.) | |||
---|---|---|---|---|
$65,040 | $61,853 | |||
$72,040 | $68,077 | |||
$74,735 | $70,624 | |||
$79,040 | $74,692 |
Although the Series I is a popular choice of the Wagoneer L trims, the Series II sells better.
Thanks to a price cut this year, the Jeep Wagoneer L’s starting price is on the lower end of extended-wheelbase full-size SUVs. The only one with a lower base price is the Chevrolet Suburban. The Ford Expedition MAX is slightly pricier, and the GMC Yukon XL starts above $70,000.
Before buying a Wagoneer L, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should really pay. Jeep Wagoneer L resale value is below average for the segment. Recouping more money when selling a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on the next one.
The 2025 Jeep Wagoneer L is powered by a 420-horsepower turbocharged 6-cylinder engine matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission and rear- or 4-wheel drive. This engine proves that a full-size SUV doesn’t require a V8. Our testing found it has ample grunt for hauling a full load of passengers around town and on the highway. It can also tow up to 10,000 pounds, meaning it can handle a wide range of travel trailers, campers, boats, and other toys without breaking a sweat. This powertrain is ideal for a big SUV.
Given the Wagoneer L’s sheer mass, braking and handling are predictably ponderous. However, the available Quadra-Lift air suspension system (standard in the more expensive Grand Wagoneer L) smooths the ride. This SUV was born for eating up miles on the highway, and it’s comfortable when serving that duty regardless of the suspension.
We’d be remiss if we got through a Jeep review without mentioning its off-road chops. Three different 4-wheel-drive (4WD) systems are available in the Jeep Wagoneer L, but we’ll keep it simple. The Quadra-Trac I system is suitable for snowy roads and mild off-roading, and the Quadra-Trac II improves off-road capability with a 2-speed transfer case. Finally, Quadra-Drive II is Jeep’s most advanced 4-wheel-drive system with active low range and a rear electronic limited-slip differential. Quadra-Drive II, mated with the aforementioned Quadra-Lift air suspension system — which provides up to 10 inches of ground clearance — makes this big SUV a serious off-roader without sacrificing on-road comfort. However, its expanded size limits its maneuverability; the standard-wheelbase Wagoneer can better negotiate the trails.
The Jeep Wagoneer L gets 17 city/24 highway/20 combined mpg with rear-wheel drive (RWD). Subtract one from each of those numbers for the 4-wheel-drive models. Those are pretty good ratings for a full-size SUV, and the fact that it runs on regular-grade gas helps keep fuel costs reasonable.
For comparison, the Ford Expedition MAX gets up to 19 combined mpg, and the standard V8 in the Chevy Suburban and GMC Yukon XL gets 17 mpg. The bigger V8 in the General Motors SUVs gets 16 mpg and requires premium gas. For a more efficient full-size SUV, consider the turbodiesel-powered Suburban or Yukon XL, which gets up to 23 combined mpg.
Up front, Jeep has managed to keep all the controls and switchgear remarkably tidy. Although there are three screens available (even the front passenger can have one), the overall feel is more warmly human than coolly technical. The rest of the cabin is quite luxurious. Leather seating surfaces are standard at the entry-level, with hide quality improving in higher trims.
But if you’re shopping for a full-size SUV with an extended wheelbase, you’re probably curious about the space behind the first row. The Wagoneer L boasts adult-friendly accommodations for the second- and third-row passengers, with a generous 36.6 inches of third-row legroom. The key difference between the interiors of the Wagoneer L and the standard-wheelbase Wagoneer is the cargo room. As the “L” implies, it’s the larger of the two.
The Wagoneer L has 42.1 cubic feet of room behind the third row (best-in-class), 85.3 cubic feet behind the second row, and 130.9 cubic feet behind the first row. Compared to the regular Wagoneer, that’s 53% more space behind the third row and 12% more room overall. In other words, the Wagoneer L is for the family that regularly hauls many people and lots of cargo simultaneously.
Jeep has done a nice job of taking an aesthetic that is uniquely Jeep and making it look refined without losing its rugged edge. Standard 20-inch wheels are a nice new touch this year. We’re partial to the blacked-out aesthetic of the Carbide trim, and the luxurious Series III trim looks lovely with its 22-inch wheels and tasteful use of chrome. All the while that seven-slat grille up front makes it unmistakably a Jeep.
10,000-pound towing capacity
The Jeep Wagoneer L achieves the best towing capacity in its class, and it does it with only six inline cylinders. It’s so relaxed when towing that you might forget that the camper is behind you when on the highway.
4WD systems
In typical Jeep fashion, the Wagoneer L has multiple 4-wheel-drive systems available. Whether you just want extra traction on slippery roads or you’re planning some serious off-road adventures, there’s a Jeep Wagoneer L that can serve your needs.
McIntosh audio
The available McIntosh 19-speaker premium audio system isn’t just the best audio system in this class; it’s one of the best sound systems we’ve ever tested in any car, period. Much more than just cool-looking speaker grilles, this audio system brings your music to life in a way you must hear to believe.
Acres of room
Every SUV in this class is spacious, but the Jeep Wagoneer L leads its class in cargo room behind the third row. That means it can be completely full of passengers and still have room for lots of stuff. From Costco to camping, the Wagoneer L has plenty of space for any adventure.
Quadra-Lift suspension
This available air suspension system gives the Wagoneer L the serene ride of a luxury SUV while improving off-road capabilities with up to 10 inches of ground clearance. It’s a worthwhile upgrade if your budget allows it.
Uconnect infotainment system
Uconnect infotainment systems have long been a strong suit of Jeep SUVs, and the Wagoneer L is no exception. This user-friendly and feature-rich system has a 10.1-inch display, a 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. A front passenger screen and rear entertainment system are optional.
A turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine powers mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission every 2025 Jeep Wagoneer L. Some rivals offer more variety under the hood (the Suburban and Yukon XL have two V8s and a diesel), but this powertrain is so good that we’re not complaining about the lack of choice. It pumps out 420 hp and 486 lb-ft of torque while returning a respectable fuel economy rating of up to 20 combined mpg with regular-grade gas. That’s a nice balance of performance and efficiency for a full-size SUV. Did we mention it has class-leading towing of up to 10,000 pounds?
More Wagoneer L fuel economy information is available on the EPA’s website.
Jeep’s new vehicle warranty lasts three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first. Jeep covers the powertrain for five years or 60,000 miles. These terms are typical for the category. Jeep also includes three years of complimentary scheduled maintenance, which isn’t so usual.
The Wagoneer L gets a 4-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), it got the top “Good” rating in every crashworthiness category except for “Moderate overlap front,” in which it earned a “Marginal” rating.
