Equal parts rugged adventurer and stylish sanctuary, there’s still no other SUV quite like the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Totally redesigned and now available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain (the forthcoming Grand Cherokee 4xe) or with 3-row seating for up to seven passengers (the Grand Cherokee L), the Grand Cherokee lineup has never been more expansive or more refined.
Here we review the familiar 2-row, V6- or V8-powered 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee, with a focus on the two most popular trims, Laredo and Limited.
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee pricing starts at $23,549 for the Grand Cherokee Laredo E Sport Utility 4D, which had a starting MSRP of $37,460 when new. The range-topping 2022 Grand Cherokee All New Summit Reserve Sport Utility 4D starts at $41,656 today, originally priced from $66,575.

The Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price for any individual used vehicle can vary greatly according to mileage, condition, location, and other factors. The prices here reflect what buyers are currently paying for used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee models in typical condition when purchasing from a dealership. These prices are updated weekly.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee delivers a more visceral driving experience than most other midsize SUVs. The ride is a bit firmer. The steering is a little heavier. The Grand Cherokee feels more capable because it is more capable.
The V6 engine and 8-speed automatic transmission deliver power and acceleration on par with others in the class. The Grand Cherokee is also one of the few SUVs in the class to offer a V8 engine, but most buyers stick with the V6, and that’s our recommendation. The V8 is quicker and offers a bit more towing capacity (7,200 pounds vs. 6,200), but it’s costly overkill for most buyers. You’ll pay more up front and burn more gasoline to the tune of an additional $40 per month, conservatively.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee’s creamy center of an interior gets even richer in the new fifth-generation model, with materials and design that are a step above most everything else in its class. The Jeep comes up a bit short in passenger and cargo room compared to other SUVs in its class, but it still qualifies as roomy and comfortable.
Jeep’s designers nailed this redesign. The new model is at once instantly recognizable as a Grand Cherokee, but also decidedly more contemporary than the model it replaces. Sharp LED reflector headlights are standard across the lineup, as are low-profile LED taillights that impart a cleaner, wider look to the rear end.
DIGITAL GAUGE CLUSTER, STANDARD
Every 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee features a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster. We love both the flexibility and contemporary feel of digital displays in place of traditional analog gauges.
ACTIVE CRUISE AND LANE CONTROL, STANDARD
It can’t drive itself, but every 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee can shoulder some of the accelerating, braking, and steering in conditions ranging from stop-and-go traffic to full-speed road trips.
The entry Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo trim offers an impressive array of equipment for its $37,785 starting price. In addition to the V6 engine, 8-speed automatic transmission, and rear-wheel drive (add $2,000 for 4-wheel drive), a base Laredo includes an impressive new Uconnect 5 infotainment system with an 8.4-inch digital touchscreen, wireless Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and over-the-air software updates.
The base model even includes adaptive cruise control with stop and go, plus active lane management, two of our favorite driving assistants. Every Grand Cherokee also features a customizable digital gauge cluster, blind-spot monitoring, and six USB ports.
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s long list of higher-end upgrades includes a passenger-side touchscreen, air suspension, massaging front seats, ultra-premium McIntosh audio system, and a night vision camera. But the reality is that most Grand Cherokees will have none of those. More common upgrades include leather seats, a sunroof (single- or dual-pane varieties), a larger and more functional touchscreen infotainment system, and heated seats.
The new Grand Cherokee features the same engines as the last one, and that’s mostly a good thing. There are newer, smoother, more efficient V6 engines in the segment, but there’s much to be said for an engine that’s proven. The V6 and V8 are both matched to a similarly seasoned 8-speed automatic transmission.
