The 2024 Hyundai Sonata is a stylish, high-tech midsize sedan with an outstanding warranty. It gains appealing upgrades inside and out this year. Pricing starts at $28,650.
The 2024 Hyundai Sonata is an appealing choice in midsize sedans. It boasts sleek styling, modern technology, and a well-equipped interior, making it competitive with the best sellers in this class. It also provides peace of mind with the best warranty in its segment. This well-balanced car checks many boxes for anyone looking for a practical midsize sedan. The Sonata goes toe-to-toe with the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Nissan Altima.
We’ve spent hundreds of hours driving and evaluating this generation of midsize sedans, including the Hyundai Sonata.
The Hyundai Sonata gets some attractive enhancements for 2024. Outside, a completely redesigned front end is highlighted by what Hyundai calls a “Seamless Horizon Lamp” front light bar giving it a unique and futuristic appearance. Inside, there’s a newly available panoramic curved display featuring a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. It also has a redesigned steering wheel and a column shifter, which frees up more space in the center stack.
Also of note, the Sonata has dropped the 1.6-liter turbo engine from its lineup, added the option of all-wheel drive with the base engine, and discontinued the SE, SEL Plus, and HEV Blue trims.
The 2024 Hyundai Sonata has a starting sticker price of $28,650, with the range-topping Sonata N Line kicking off at $36,100. But Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing currently suggests paying $2,012 to $2,333 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment. These prices are updated weekly.
MSRP | KBB Fair Purchase Price (national avg.) | |||
---|---|---|---|---|
$28,650 | $26,638 | |||
$36,100 | $33,767 |
The Sonata is priced similarly to segment stalwarts like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.
Before buying a Sonata, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should really pay. Hyundai Sonata resale value is about average for the segment.
You’ll like how the Hyundai Sonata drives if you prioritize comfort and efficiency. In our experience, the base engine gets the job done while returning good fuel economy, and they make the Sonata an agreeable car to drive.
The N Line model improves the performance with a turbocharged engine. The enthusiast in us likes the N Line, but the base engine is the more economical choice for most drivers, especially since it’s available with AWD.
Driver assistance tech features make the Sonata a more relaxing car to drive. The available Highway Driving Assist system uses tech features like adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist to improve the safety and serenity of highway driving.
The interior of the Hyundai Sonata has a modern design that looks like it belongs in a more expensive car. It uses clean lines to create a space that’s both sporty and upscale. By moving the transmission selector to the steering column, similar to the execution we like in the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric car, there’s now more space for personal items available in the center console.
In our experience with the Sonata, the seats are comfortable, and the rear-seat space is average for a midsize sedan, which nowadays means plentiful. Cargo room is also typical for this class, and it has a nice, big trunk opening making it easy to load and unload.
Exterior styling is a strong suit of the Hyundai Sonata. This segment used to be known for bland designs, but the Sonata has an updated look for 2024 with Hyundai’s “Seamless Horizon Lamp.” The light signature and the body lines create a car that looks like nothing else on the road while retaining its value and practicality.
As for the size, the Sonata is in line with the midsize sedan segment. Its dimensions resemble the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Kia K5.
Seamless Horizon Lamp
This new front light bar contributes to the unique exterior design of the Sonata that’s sure to turn heads.
Panoramic curved display
This optional feature houses a digital gauge cluster and an infotainment screen in one sleek display giving the Sonata’s cockpit a high-tech and driver-centric theme.
N Line model
Want a sedan that’s practical and affordable but also fun to drive? The Sonata N Line strikes this balance nicely thanks to a 290-horsepower turbo engine, plus a sporty appearance package to match.
Excellent warranty
The Sonata gives you peace of mind with a class-leading 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
Highway Driving Assist
This semi-autonomous driving system uses features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and blind-spot monitoring to make highway driving safer and more relaxed.
Remote Smart Parking Assist
This optional feature allows the driver to nose the Sonata into or out of a parking space while standing outside and pressing buttons on the key fob.
The Sonata lineup offers a choice of four powertrains.
Frugal Base Engine
The standard engine in the Sonata is a good value because of its impressive estimated fuel economy. It smoothly delivers power to the front or all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. This is for the thrifty driver who prioritizes efficiency over performance.
2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine
191 horsepower @ 6,100 rpm
181 lb-ft of torque @ 4,000 rpm
EPA city/highway fuel economy: 25/36 mpg (FWD), 25/34 mph (AWD)
Sporty N Line engine
The N Line trim makes the Sonata a more engaging sport sedan thanks to a turbocharged engine mated to a quick-shifting, dual-clutch automatic transmission. It makes the daily commute more exciting while still returning good fuel economy. Of note, you can’t get AWD with this engine.
2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine
290 horsepower @ 5,800 rpm
311 lb-ft of torque @ 1,650-4,000 rpm
EPA city/highway fuel economy: 23/32 mpg
Efficient hybrid powertrain
At 15,000 miles per year, a Sonata Hybrid will burn through about 12 fewer gallons of gas each month compared with even the most efficient gas version. That’s a savings of $36 per month when paying $3 per gallon.
2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine + Electric Motor
Total system output: 192 horsepower
EPA city/highway fuel economy (2023): 45/51 mpg
Along with its corporate cousin, the Kia K5, the Hyundai Sonata boasts the best warranty in its class. It’s covered by a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
The Hyundai Sonata has earned a 5-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and 2024 Top Safety Pick honors from the Insurance Insitute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
The 2024 Hyundai Sonata is in the middle 26-75% for Cost to Own among all Mid-size Cars.
