Drivers looking for something thoroughly practical should consider the 2022 Honda Insight. It’s a hybrid sedan at an affordable price point with outstanding fuel economy. It has an impressive EPA combined fuel economy rating of up to 52 mpg. The Insight is also a comfortable and composed small car with excellent standard features like the Honda Sensing safety tech suite and a modern infotainment system with smartphone connectivity features.
This is the third iteration of the Honda Insight. Each one has been different, but it is now simply a practical hybrid compact sedan. It came out for the 2019 model year as a replacement for the Honda Civic Hybrid. The most direct competitor to the Insight is the Toyota Corolla Hybrid, which is similar in size, fuel economy and price.
2022 Honda Insight pricing starts at $20,069 for the Insight EX Sedan 4D, which had a starting MSRP of $26,855 when new. The range-topping 2022 Insight Touring Sedan 4D starts at $22,502 today, originally priced from $28,885.

The Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price for any individual used vehicle can vary greatly according to mileage, condition, location, and other factors. The prices here reflect what buyers are currently paying for used 2022 Honda Insight models in typical condition when purchasing from a dealership. These prices are updated weekly.
The Honda Insight is a pleasant and easy car to drive, especially for a compact sedan. The ride is smooth and quiet, and the car is comfortable enough for long-distance drives. The engine can get a little noisy at high rpm, but that’s only an issue on highway on-ramps. When the Insight is cruising on the highway or driving around town, it’s pretty quiet, partially thanks to standard active noise cancellation.
Regenerative brakes in hybrid cars are a bit of a mixed bag. Sometimes they present an odd sensation that takes some getting used to, but in the Insight, using the brakes feels like it would in a regular car while the hybrid system captures some of that energy. Overall, the hybrid operation is smooth and agreeable to the point that you may forget you’re driving a hybrid.
A couple of drive modes give the Insight a little more personality. Econ mode maximizes fuel efficiency, and Sport mode quickens the throttle response. The acceleration and handling of the Honda Insight are adequate for most people’s needs, but we wouldn’t call the Insight a sport sedan. No surprises there.
The inside of the Honda Insight has a pleasant design that is consistent with the car’s personality. The interior design has a simple elegance to it, and the tech features are easy to use. It has some vertically-oriented gear-shift buttons that may take some getting used to, but they help contribute to the clean layout of the interior.
Interior space is pretty generous for a compact car. Seating space is plentiful, and it has a surprisingly big trunk thanks to the lithium-ion battery for the hybrid system cleverly packaged behind the back seats.
Just a few standard features in the interior include automatic climate control, an 8-inch infotainment system, rear-seat armrest, and a push-button start. Additional features in the Touring model include leather seating, dual-zone climate control, auto-dimming mirror, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
The exterior design of this Honda Insight is by far the least outlandish of the three generations of the Insight so far. It’s tasteful and is in line with the current Honda corporate design language. You’d be forgiven for mistaking the Insight for a Civic or an Accord, and we think that’s a good thing.
Some excellent exterior features that come standard include automatic LED headlights, LED taillights, and heated mirrors. In addition, the Touring trim adds some classy chrome exterior trim, LED fog lights, and a moonroof. As for the size, it’s right in line with the compact sedan segment. The Insight is almost the exact same size as the Toyota Corolla Hybrid sedan.
If you want to make a statement about driving a hybrid, you might not appreciate the conservative styling of the Honda Insight. However, if you like the idea of hybrid efficiency in the form of a normal-looking sedan, then you’ll enjoy the subtlety of the Insight.
HYBRID POWERTRAIN
Not only does the hybrid powertrain yield excellent fuel economy, but it’s easy to drive and has smooth power delivery.
8-INCH DISPLAY AUDIO SYSTEM
Standard in every 2022 Insight is an 8-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. These connectivity features are essential for anyone with a modern smartphone.
Since the formerly base LX trim has been dropped from the Honda Insight lineup for the 2022 model year, this hybrid now has more standard features than before. The EX model is the new base trim, and it’s well-equipped with interior, exterior, and technology features.
On top of the efficient hybrid powertrain, standard features include active noise cancellation, LED headlights, taillights, and daytime running lights, automatic high beams, 16-inch alloy wheels, blind-spot monitoring, single-zone automatic climate control, tilt and telescopic steering column, push-button start, remote start, rear-seat center armrest, and folding back seats to make more cargo space.
Every Insight comes standard with the Honda Sensing safety tech suite. Honda Sensing bundles forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, road departure mitigation, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and traffic sign recognition.
Also standard on every 2022 Insight is an 8-inch Display Audio infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity, and HD radio.
If you’re looking for a more upscale hybrid sedan while still keeping the price reasonable, you can upgrade to the more loaded Touring trim of the Insight. The Insight Touring adds more chrome exterior trim, rain-sensing windshield wipers, LED turn indicators on the mirrors, 17-inch alloy wheels, one-touch power moonroof, LED fog lights, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather seats, heated and power-adjustable front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Some tech upgrades for the Touring model include a 10-speaker premium audio system, navigation, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, universal garage door opener, and an auto-dimming mirror.
Every 2022 Honda Insight comes with the same hybrid powertrain, but the fuel economy changes based on which trim you choose. The hybrid/electric motor makes a total output of 151 horsepower. Both the EX and Touring trims return excellent fuel economy, but the EX is the more efficient of the two.
Every Insight comes with a CVT automatic transmission delivering power to the front wheels.
