All-new for 2027, the GMC Sierra 1500 is designed to be more refined, more capable, and more luxurious than ever before. Pricing is expected to start around $42,000.
The GMC Sierra is known for being stylish and hard-working, elegant yet tough. That balance is the driving force behind the Sierra’s continued sales growth. Nearly half of the Sierras sold are the Denali and AT4 trims – the most upscale and the most off-road capable – so when it was time for a new Sierra, it’s no surprise the emphasis was placed on luxury and capability. Based on what they showed, there are going to be significant improvements in both, and they were already good to start with.
GMC offered an early look at the 2027 Sierra, but has not yet announced horsepower, torque, towing capacity, or payload capacity.
The Sierra has new sheet metal, totally redesigned interiors, and new screen setups. GMC updated the AT4X to make it more capable off-road. In addition, the trim lineup has been simplified. The SLE and SLT have been dropped, leaving the Pro, Elevation, AT4, Denali, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate.
The 2027 Sierra 1500 is expected to go on sale in late 2026.
We anticipate pricing will be competitive and likely reflect a slight increase over 2026 Sierra prices. Price estimates are based on the most affordable cab/bed combination offered in 2026.
| Trim | Starting Price |
| Pro | $42,000 (est.) |
| Elevation | $54,000 (est.) |
| Denali | $69,500 (est.) |
| AT4 | $70,000 (est.) |
| AT4X | $83,000 (est.) |
| Denali Ultimate | $88,000 (est.) |
GMC Sierra pricing typically starts slightly higher than its competitors, as well as its Chevrolet kin, the Silverado.
GMC Sierra 1500 resale value is typically below average for its class. However, with this year’s redesign and new engines, the next-gen Sierra may hold its value better than the last one did. Recouping more money when selling a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on the next one.
It could be argued that the interiors in the previous generation needed extra glitz to justify paying more at the dealer. For 2027, that should not be an issue. Every trim level has a redesigned interior, each with its own color scheme. The materials used in the cab have been upgraded, including real wood trim – open-pore forged birch, in the case of the Denali Ultimate – and real carbon fiber in the AT4X. A panoramic sunroof is available, as is 16-speaker Bose audio with speakers mounted in the front-seat headrests.
In addition, there are up to 60 inches of digital displays. There’s the 16.3-inch infotainment screen. This powered screen extends from the dash, making it easier to use and revealing a handy storage area, a neat trick we used to see in older GM models. Then there’s the configurable 12.2-inch driver information center, the 15-inch color head-up display, and the 8.5-inch rear camera mirror. Finally, there is a new 11.5-inch front passenger screen. It has a folding cover that shields about two-thirds of the screen. These can all be found in the Denali Ultimate. GMC has not announced which of these features will be available in which trims in the rest of the lineup.
As posh as the new interiors look, the new MultiPro center console is focused on work duty, and should serve as a convenient spot to set up a laptop or clipboards.
The 2027 Sierra’s styling is more upscale and sophisticated, as if it’s donning a finely tailored suit. The truck has crisp lines and a sharp new grille and headlight setup. The headlights and taillights are available with “welcome and farewell animations,” and a 4-outlet exhaust is optional. The Sierra will still be available with three cab configurations and multiple bed lengths, with rear-wheel drive (RWD) or 4-wheel drive (4WD).
AT4X
Already a stout off-road trim, for 2027 the AT4X gets front and rear e-locking differentials, jounce control dampers, and rides on 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires. Last year’s tires were just over 33 inches tall.
Multiple screens
The Sierra 1500’s new 16.3-inch main touch screen is the largest in its class. Also new for 2027 are the 15-inch head-up display and the all-new 11.5-inch passenger screen (which has a retractable cover). There’s also a 12.2-inch configurable driver information center. All in, there are more than 60 inches of displays.
MultiPro Console
The new MultiPro center console can be folded flat to serve as a workstation. It has chargers for your devices, and the cup holders are still easy to access.
MultiPro tailgate
This innovative tailgate can serve as a bed step, bed extender, or workbench. GMC hinted that there will be updates to the tailgate, including tiedowns and a weight reduction.
Two new engines join the Sierra lineup for 2027. A 5.7-liter (350ci) V8 replaces the 355-horsepower 5.3-liter, and a 6.6-liter (402ci) replaces the 420-hp 6.2-liter V8. An “enhanced” version of the 2.7-liter 4-cylinder TurboMax is returning, as is the 3.0-liter Duramax diesel. A 10-speed automatic transmission will back all four engines. The new V8 engines, part of GM’s sixth generation of small-block V8 engines, are designed to deliver more power and efficiency, with improved refinement over the previous generation. We expect horsepower and torque numbers to increase for 2027 for the V8 engines.
With the current model, payload capacity ranges from 1,520 to 2,260 pounds, and the Sierra’s maximum towing capacity is 13,300 pounds. We expect the 2027 model to top all those numbers.
