2026 Genesis G90

We like the Genesis G90 almost more than any other car of its kind. We say “almost” because there’s a tie at the top of our full-size luxury car rankings, with the G90 and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class sharing the accolade. It’s not like the rest of the cars in this class are that far behind, however, because these are some of the most impressive conveyances in the world.

They all have superb tech and lavish comfort features. It’s just that Genesis has impressed us by coming from its lowly position as newest premium marque to major contender in such a short time. And the G90 is not just a great large luxury sedan by a new(ish) company — it would be a fine example of the genre no matter who built it. That’s why it has equal billing with the S-Class, that giant of the luxury sector.

We’ve logged hundreds of hours driving and evaluating this generation of full-size luxury cars, including the Genesis G90.

A Prestige Black version comes along to top the range this year. Based on the variant with the most powerful engine, this treatment is cosmetic, with additions and changes both inside and out. We’ll go into more detail in our Interior and Exterior sections below. This second-generation G90 debuted for the 2023 model year.

Buyers in the market for this kind of car generally want the top version and can afford to pay the extra money, so we’re happy to recommend the 3.5T E-SC model and leave it to personal choice regarding cosmetics.

Rivals like the BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and Porsche Panamera start higher, while the Audi A8 and revamped-for-2026 Lexus LS tend to be more competitive. Keep in mind, though, the G90 also comes with a lot of standard equipment, including all-wheel drive (AWD).

Before buying a new G90 large luxury sedan, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should be paying. We expect resale values to be around average for the class. Recouping more money when selling a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on the next one.

If any driver of a large luxury sedan (as opposed to any large luxury sedan driver) is really interested in blasting away as the lights turn green, the base G90 3.5T will accelerate from standstill to 60 mph in around 5.5 seconds, thanks to its turbocharged V6 generating 375 horsepower. For comparison, an equivalent BMW 740i xDrive has the same number of horses, but will gallop to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. Or the Mercedes-Benz S 500 4Matic flexes 442 hp and hits 60 mph in 4.2 seconds. The extra thrust of the 409-hp G90 3.5T E-SC shaves about a tenth of a second from its stablemate’s acceleration time.

Not that this kind of metric is really crucial among large luxury sedans. As long as there’s enough muscle to back up their car’s prestigious presence, then most owners should be happy. We’ve never been unhappy with the G90’s gumption. What’s more, the serene cabin and unflustered ride quality have been positively mood-lifting.

The “entry-level” G90 has an adaptive suspension with a camera that reads the road ahead and then adjusts itself within milliseconds to suit. The supercharged G90 enjoys a super-smooth air suspension. Rear-wheel steering comes with the supercharged engine, giving this big car a surprising and enjoyable dash of athleticism. It also helps when maneuvering in tight spots.

Fuel Economy

The base 3.5T engine achieves 21 mpg in combined city/highway driving. The electric supercharger and the mild-hybrid setup of the 3.5T E-SC MHEV version results in 20 mpg combined. This isn’t competitive. For example, base versions of the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class run to 27 mpg combined and 24 mpg combined, respectively.

Smart design, fine materials, abundant tech, and superb comfort all go toward consolidating the 2026 G90’s high ranking in the already lofty large luxury sedan class.

The new Prestige Black version is a rich Goth’s fantasy car — with black Nappa leather, “Black Ash” wood trim, anodized black speaker grilles, bespoke key fobs, plus black controls and vents.

Accommodations in the second row are appropriately swish, offering power-adjustable and reclining rear seats that are also heated and ventilated while offering a massage function and an extendable footrest for the passenger-side seat. Add wireless charging and beautifully cushioned headrests covered in a suede-like material, and it is among the poshest second rows on the market. Rear legroom measures 37.8 inches, which we’ve found is plenty for adults of average size. If anyone needs greater space, they can check out the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class — all with more than 40 inches of rear legroom.

“I want this car” was pretty much the standard reaction of our friends and family members whenever they saw the G90. We get it. There’s no design weirdness or conservative blandness, just a well-executed flagship sedan with the right looks to accompany its classy status.

The new-for-2026 Prestige Black version is available in black, or (perhaps less predictably) white. The details that come with it (all in black) are things like the grille, Genesis badges, 21-inch alloy wheels (with floating center caps), and the brake calipers.

Luxurious seating
The G90’s front seats are supremely comfortable, and we think the rear seats are just as good. Nappa leather upholstery is standard, while the upper trim adds heated/ventilated/massaging/reclining rear seats — plus a rear center console with touchscreen controls and a wireless charging pad.

Bang & Olufsen audio
We’ve found that the top 23-speaker/1,400-watt surround-sound array excels at reproducing many different types of music. It even has settings like Boston Symphony Hall to give listeners the feeling that they’re in real-life concert venues. The base G90 has a great B&O system as well.

Powered doors
They don’t just close softly, they also open with the press of a button. One particular detail we really like is how the driver’s door closes automatically once the driver climbs in and steps on the brake pedal. The supercharged model has this as standard.

Genesis Digital Key 2
This feature turns an iPhone, Apple Watch, or Samsung smartphone into a key through Apple Wallet and Samsung Pass. We found it wonderfully convenient that — in addition to locking, unlocking, and starting the G90 — this function recognizes the driver and loads customized vehicle preferences accordingly.

Highway Driving Assist 2
Adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and road sign recognition combine in this standard feature to alleviate the grind of long freeway stretches. Like a lot of the driver assistance technology in Genesis vehicles, we’ve found it to be among the best out there.

3.5T E-SC
Boosting the base engine by 34 hp and 14 lb-ft of torque with an electric supercharger might sound like a lot of effort for not much reward, but we’re fans of this engine’s easy and responsive power delivery.

The 2026 G90 starts out with a perfectly fine twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 making a correspondingly acceptable 375 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. This links to a standard all-wheel drive system through an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The more muscular optional configuration keeps the turbochargers, then adds an electric supercharger, boosting output to 409 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. It also brings more mild-hybrid hardware to make the fuel-saving engine stop/restart action appropriately smooth for a flagship sedan.

5-Year/60,000-Mile Warranty

The new-vehicle warranty from Genesis lasts five years or 60,000 miles, whichever happens first, with roadside assistance for five years at unlimited mileage. The powertrain is covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. These terms are among the best in the automotive industry. Genesis also includes three years or 36,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance.

Safety Ratings

The 2025 G90 has received the second-highest honor of Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping/lane-following assistance, and a 360-degree camera system.
