About Dodge Nitro

The 2011 Dodge Nitro has a split personality. On one side, the Dodge Nitro is like any mid-size crossover offering seating for five, available all-wheel drive and an affordable sticker price. Then there is the Nitro's more extreme side, which displays bold and boxy styling, vivid color choices and massive 20-inch wheels. Placed side-by-side with a Honda CR-V or Chevrolet Equinox, the untrained observers would probably be hard pressed to place the Nitro in the same league. And, although the Nitro threatens to cannibalize sales from family members Jeep Liberty and Dodge Journey, Dodge isn't worried, saying the Nitro has its own unique niche defined by its artful blend of size, styling and features.

"This Nitro has been extremely reliable since i bought it. I love the way the nitro drives and handles. It's roomy inside and has held up both inside and mechanically as i am going on 122,000 and it,s not even 4 years old. It's ashame they don't make them anymore. When I buy again, it will be a newer Nitro. What were they thinking when they stopped making them?"

Pros: "Turning radius, style, handling,"

Cons: "interior, ride quality, features breaking."

"Bought this car new with 8 miles on it. The design and style is wonderful which is why I bought it coming from a coupe. It has great function for my busy lifestyle and has served me well over the past 10 years. But compared to other vehicles of the same type and age I'm disappointed. The TPMS system is a constant headache with the module itself loosing communication with the tires. You'll be driving on a trip and it'll go off saying you have low tire pressure. Stop only to find out the tires are fine when you check them. I've had the sensors checked multiple times and they all work correctly, even had a few replaced. The roof rack brackets have been replaced twice due to the plastic breaking and them coming off while driving. Normal things have had to be done like spark plugs, water pump, thermostat, belt and transmission services, oil changes. I will say the turning radius is wonderful but the ride quality is worse than my sons F250 truck. For me it is a perfect vehicle but the resale value dropped to almost nothing when I wanted to trade it in so I became "stuck" with it. The driver side seat side is plastic and the tabs broke off at about 150,000 miles which is $120 dealer item only. My son who is a diesel mechanic had to replace my A/C evaporator at 85,000 miles and the compressor at 125,000 miles. The A/C since I bought this car was never as cold as other vehicles. In fact sometimes at random it will blow warm air. The only reason I held on to this vehicle so long was because I've owned 4 cars in my life now at 60 years old. Before this was a 94 Pontiac Sunbird I had bought at 14,00 miles and sold it with 280,000 miles with no unusual problems. At 204,000 thousand I don't think this car will make it another 80,000. I will say and my son will agree the engine is strong and doesn't burn any oil. Recently I've had to replace the fuel pump but other than that no major issues. When I bought it they had to replace the torque converter for a shutter and it's starting to come back. Only other problem is the radio reception doesn't work anymore and my son along with the Dodge dealer tells me its the head unit and not the antenna as they both checked it. All in all its been a decent vehicle but seeing as other vehicles have lasted from 2007 I will say I'm disappointed in it. I'm currently in the market for a new car as I retire in two years and I don't want to be stuck with expensive transmission repairs."

Pros: "Fun to drive, plenty of room for carge, luggage"

Cons: "air conditioning needs repair every year"

"I reallly like driving my Nitro. However I have had constant and expensive repairs to the air conditioning. The mileage is resonable for the type of driving I do. also th cd changer does not funcion properly all of the time."
