The gas-powered Dodge Charger will return for the 2026 model year with two body styles, two outputs, and standard all-wheel drive.
Following a brief hiatus after the discontinuation of the previous generation of the Dodge Charger in 2023, a gas engine option is returning to the Dodge Charger in 2026. After spending a couple of years exclusively available as the Charger Daytona EV (which we review separately), a more affordable Charger with a 6-cylinder gas engine should have more mainstream appeal. Since it will be available in both 2-door coupe and 4-door sedan body styles, it effectively replaces both the Charger and Challenger of yore. We’re expecting two different output ratings for the “SIXPACK” engine and standard all-wheel drive.
We expect the gas-powered 2026 Dodge Charger to arrive in U.S. dealerships by the end of 2025. It will be offered alongside the Dodge Charger Daytona EV.
The 2026 Dodge Charger will be powered by the Hurricane 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine, available with a standard output and a high output. Although it doesn’t have the same sound or grit as the Hemi V8 options in the old Charger, we’ve been impressed with the Hurricane engine in Ram trucks and Jeep SUVs.
The entry-level engine should produce 420 horsepower and 469 lb-ft of torque, while the high-output version should make 550 hp and 521 lb-ft of torque. Those are better performance specs than the old Charger R/T and Charger Scat Pack, respectively. All of the above will use an 8-speed automatic transmission, and we expect all-wheel drive to be standard across the board.
We expect the 2026 Dodge Charger to start at about $40,000 with the base, standard-output engine. The high-output version could start at around $50,000. The rumored trim names for the new ICE-powered Charger are GT for standard-output and Outlaw for high-output, so we’ll go with those cool-sounding names unless Dodge confirms otherwise.
Charger GT | $40,000 (est) |
Charger Outlaw | $50,000 (est) |
Before buying a Charger, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should really pay. Dodge Charger resale value historically varies, with higher-performance variants holding their value better than the more mainstream versions. Recouping more money when selling a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on the next one.
A new report says that Stellantis will restart production of Hemi engines, including the Hellcat model, this summer.
The classic police car is dead, with only SUVs for sale to departments today. Dodge may bring it back.
First, it was the electric muscle car. Then it was the electric muscle car with a gas-powered option. Now, it…
No, the Dodge Charger sources its thrust from a Hurricane 3.0-liter V6 combustion engine. The Dodge Charger Daytona, on the other hand, is a fully electric car.
We expect the Dodge Charger to have all-wheel drive as standard on both trim levels.
The 2-model Dodge Charger line will start in the low $40,000 range for the GT and in the low $50,000 range for the Outlaw grade.
