Introduction
First released as a 2020 model, the CX-30 subcompact SUV eventually replaced the smaller CX-3 and slotted below the CX-5 and CX-50 in Mazda’s SUV family. After making all-wheel drive (AWD) standard in 2022, Mazda introduced a more efficient but also slightly more powerful base 2.5-liter inline-4 engine. There aren’t many subcompact SUVs with standard AWD, except for the Subaru Crosstrek. Other rivals in this popular segment include the Hyundai Kona, Kia Seltos, Chevy Trailblazer, and the somewhat bigger Honda HR-V. Larger and taller than the Mazda3 hatchback, the CX-30 exhibits all the comfort, safety, style, refinement, and performance that Mazda buyers expect.

Sleek muscle, elegant structure, well-organized space, comprehensive driver assistance, a responsive handling experience, a variety of trims, and standard AWD come together at a competitive price in the 2023 Mazda CX-30. The CX-30 has more satisfying driving dynamics with sharp steering and agile handling, and an available turbo-4 engine offers a sporty counter to the more efficient base engine.

KBB Review Highlights
Debuting in 2020, the 2023 CX-30 represents Mazda’s ethos of restrained luxury and elegant power in a subcompact SUV package. A level of sophistication elevates the CX-30 among its sometimes-boring rivals. It rises above the Honda HR-V, Hyundai Kona, and Subaru Crosstrek with superior finish, sporty yet refined driving manners experience, and excellent resale numbers.
The 2023 Mazda CX-30’s cabin isn’t the largest in its class, but it feels more elevated than just about every rival. This just feels like a special place to be. Depending on the model, buyers can choose from cloth, synthetic leather, or genuine leather upholstery. An 8.8-inch center display is standard across the line, operated not by touch like other systems, but a rotary dial in the center tunnel south of the gear shifter. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. Leg space is always at a premium in a compact crossover, and the 2023 CX-30 is no exception.

Mazda continues to deviate from the trend of boxy, burly, not-so-off-roadable SUVs, instead sticking with a more timeless and uncluttered design philosophy embodied by the 2023 CX-30. The lines are clean and fluid, the exterior cladding is minimal, and the power of reflective surfaces and stellar paint elevates the design. As you rise through the seven trims, including two turbo-4 options, Mazda includes additional safety, convenience, and comfort features like blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert, a head-up display, and power-adjustable seating. All 2023 CX-30 models boast a strong roster of active safety and driver assist features, including adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist.
Taking cues from the success of the Mazda3, the 2023 CX-30 has two engine choices but the steering and handling elevate it above its competitors. The CX-30 uses a 191-horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine in the 2.5 S, Select, Preferred, Carbon Edition, and Premium models with an EPA combined mileage rating of 29 mpg, which is exceptional with standard AWD. A turbocharged engine powers namesake trim levels, the CX-30 2.5 Turbo Premium and Turbo Premium Plus, with a combined EPA rating of 25 mpg and an output of 250 hp with premium fuel.
With more than enough power for your daily commute and a premium interior, the CX-30 is a standout subcompact SUV.
