Introduction

The Honda Civic is one of the most recognizable compact cars on the market. Known for its practicality, safety, and high resale value, the Honda Civic has become one of America’s favorite small vehicles. The 2023 Civic is no exception, and is both practical and fun to drive. Available in a variety of trims and formats, the Civic nestles comfortably at the intersection of athletic efficiency and reliability.

The Civic was entirely redesigned for 2022, making 2023 models a great used value — they use many of the same parts as new models on sales lots now. The Civic is available in two body styles: a traditional sedan or a highly practical hatchback. From the base LX trim to the sporty Si model to the fancy Touring trims, a wide variety in the Honda Civic model range ensures something for everyone in the market for a compact car. There’s even the track-ready Civic Type R. The 2023 Honda Civic is well-equipped even in its most basic form, with standard features like the Honda Sensing safety tech suite, LED headlights, automatic climate control, and Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity. It is no surprise that this generation of the Civic has taken home a bevy of honors, including the Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Award every year since its debut.

KBB Review Highlights

Easily recognizable, the 2023 Honda Civic rises high in a class crowded with the Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra, Mazda3, and Nissan Sentra. Like its Honda siblings, the Civic comes in a wide array of trims. The 2023 Civic has a handsome, Euro-inspired design with a low hood and beltline, creating a subtly sporty design that’s not too busy and creates great outward visibility.

The Honda Civic drives like a Honda, which is to say it injects a little fun into the daily commute without compromising practicality or great fuel economy. The 2023 Civic models use a front-wheel drive (FWD) architecture. A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) is standard, and you can find Sport and Sport Touring hatchbacks with a 6-speed manual transmission. The stick shift is mandatory in the 200-horsepower Civic Si sedan and Type R hatchback. As you go up the trim lines, you get more interior features and a turbo engine that bumps up the horsepower, delivers more torque, and brings a sportier experience.

We’ve found this generation of Civic high on comfort, too. Wider-opening doors, great seat ergonomics, and improved space utilization eliminate many of the pain points of compact sedans. As you go up the trim lines beyond LX, you’ll find premium details like leather upholstery, Bose audio, and heated front seats.

The standard infotainment system has a 7-inch display and wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but a 9-inch screen with wireless smartphone connectivity is optional. We love that Honda Sensing comes standard on every 2023 Civic, which bundles automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and traffic sign recognition. In alignment with Honda’s brand promise of delivering safe, reliable vehicles at a value price, the 2023 Honda Civic comes well-equipped with all the space and comfort that compact car buyers crave.
