Introduction

Although Audi has gone on to use the e-tron name for all its electric vehicles, the Audi e-tron quattro SUV has the distinction of being the company’s first all-electric model. It debuted for the 2019 model year. For 2022, more powerful S variants join the lineup, and the Chronos Edition trim replaces the previous top Prestige trim. Sizewise, the 2022 e-tron slots between the compact Audi Q5 and the midsize Q7. It’s available as a regular SUV or in a sleeker Sportback body style.

Built at a carbon-neutral facility, the 2022 Audi e-tron quattro sports a typically understated yet still classy Audi exterior design, along with a refined and luxurious cabin with seating for five. With a maximum range of 222 miles, the e-tron falls short of the Tesla Model Y’s 330 miles, but compensates through its Audi build quality, heritage, and extensive dealer network.

KBB Review Highlights

The 2022 Audi e-tron quattro all-electric luxury SUV is refined, elegant, spacious, and capable. Competing in a class that also includes the Jaguar i-Pace, Tesla Model Y, and Volvo XC40 Recharge, the e-tron brings the confidence of its wide dealer network, well-packaged trims, build quality, and that undeniable Audi style. Despite this being Audi’s first foray into electric vehicles (EVs), the e-tron still feels mature and thought out.

Non-S versions of the e-tron are energized by a 95-kWh lithium-ion battery, and a dual-motor setup delivers a total of 355 horsepower and 414 lb-ft of torque. A Boost mode option raises that output to 402 hp and 490 lb-ft of torque, but depletes the battery faster. The new-for-2022 S versions (both SUV and Sportback) enjoy three motors for 429 hp (or 496 hp with Boost mode) and a substantial 717 lb-ft of torque. We’ve found that even the regular (non-S) e-tron is agile and responsive, while its standard all-wheel drive (AWD) system and adaptive suspension create an elevated driving experience that takes rough weather and somewhat rough terrain in its near-silent stride.

The 2022 e-tron’s interior is as comfortable as it is classy, with high-tech and soft touch points. Audi equips the e-tron with its 12.3-inch digital information display (aka Virtual Cockpit), while the streamlined center console houses an infotainment touchscreen and a separate screen for the quad-zone climate control system. Other features include two USB ports, navigation, and wired and wireless phone integration.

The entry-level Premium trim comes with a panoramic sunroof and powered shade, heated front seats, leather seating surfaces, self-dimming mirrors, wood accents, satellite radio, and a powered tailgate. Premium Plus adds a Bang & Olufsen audio system, additional charging ports, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a 360-degree camera system, and wireless charging. Various packages offer greater comfort and convenience, topping out with the Chronos Edition version featuring finer leather, cabin air ionization, power-closing doors, massaging front seats, intersection assistance, and a head-up display.

The 2022 e-tron also includes a comprehensive array of advanced safety features, such as forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane departure warning. We like the value proposition of the Convenience Plus package for the Premium trim as it adds an impressive amount of equipment without having to stretch to the next trim.
