The subcompact luxury SUV segment is a popular choice for shoppers who want upscale features, materials, and style at relatively reasonable prices. For that reason, this segment is an ideal gateway into buying luxury cars. Two standout models in this entry-level luxury segment are the 2026 Acura ADX and the 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLA.
They may be in the same segment, but what they offer is very different. One leans into crisp steering response and handling and offers terrific value; the other excels in comfort, refinement, and luxury amenities.
Want to see how they compare? Let’s look at some highlights of the Acura ADX and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
2026 Acura ADX

Now in its second year, the ADX is Acura’s most affordable SUV and is also the most affordable luxury SUV in its segment. This Acura comes nicely equipped, regardless of trim level, and has a roomy interior for its size. A 9-inch touchscreen and 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster come standard, as does the AcuraWatch suite of safety features, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, wireless phone charging, heated front seats, and more. All-wheel drive (AWD) is available on all three trims (ADX, A-Spec, A-Spec w/Advance Package) for an additional $2,000.
Acura ADX Highlights:
Value, value, value: It isn’t just that the ADX is the most affordable subcompact luxury SUV on the market. The ADX comes very well equipped, even in the most affordable trim level, with a full suite of driver-assist safety features, plus heated front seats, a moonroof, and a power liftgate. Moving up the trim line, which adds niceties like leather seats, 15-speaker audio, a panoramic moonroof, and more, the ADX’s price is still lower than that of comparably equipped competitors.
Fun to drive: The ADX is a sprightly SUV that’s powered by a 190-hp turbo engine. That, plus this SUV’s terrific steering, sharp handling, and sport-tuned suspension, make it one of the most fun-to-drive models in its class.
Premium audio: The ADX A-Spec w/Advance Package comes with a Bang & Olufsen 15-speaker audio system. The sound is rich and clear, and offers the quality of a true premium audio system.

2026 Mercedes-Benz GLA

The GLA is Mercedes’ smallest and least expensive SUV. It carries the style, interior craftsmanship, and cachet you would expect of a vehicle with the 3-pointed star on the front. There is a performance-tuned AMG variant available — albeit at a significantly higher price. But for that price, this upgrade significantly increases the GLA’s power and performance. The standard version is the front-wheel-drive Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 or all-wheel-drive GLA 250 4Matic.
Mercedes-Benz GLA Highlights
Refined yet nimble: The GLA does a fantastic job balancing athletic handling and a composed, comfortable ride. This gives the GLA fleet-footedness that’s great for navigating city traffic and the comfort and poise for longer drives.
High-tech bliss: For those who enjoy digging into cool tech, there’s plenty on board to try out. Much of it is included in Mercedes’ MBUX system, such as dual 10.25-inch screens, a virtual voice assistant, and the ability to store seven user profiles. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
Mighty AMG GLA 35 sibling: With a starting price hovering around $60,000, the AMG GLA 35 commands a whole lot more money than the GLA 250 and GLA 250 4Matic. But this upgrade includes a 302-hp turbo 4-cylinder instead of the standard 221-hp engine. The AMG engine sounds great, and propels this Mercedes from 0-60 mph in about five seconds, nearly two seconds faster than the GLA 250. The Acura ADX doesn’t have a comparable performance variant.

Conclusion
These vehicles are different enough that if you have a “big picture” idea of what you’re looking for in a subcompact luxury SUV, choosing between the two should be a snap. If you want sharp handling and steering at a value price, opt for the Acura ADX. If you want the elegance, sportiness, and design of a Mercedes — and have the budget for it — choose the GLA.
