VW Recalls Jetta Over Fire Risk

Volkswagen has recalled 48,165 Jetta sedans from model years 2025-2026 because a loose wire in their automatic transmissions could cause a short circuit and a fire.

The company tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that factory workers may have failed to connect a ground wire in some transmissions, leaving an open circuit. That could spark and trigger a vehicle fire.

The company is aware of at least six cases of fire or melted parts, but no injuries or deaths related to the problem.

Dealers will inspect the transmission and, if necessary, connect the ground wire to fix it.

By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.

Automakers recall many cars to fix safety defects, sometimes more than once. While automakers try to reach every owner to ask them to bring the vehicle in for repair, they rarely get them all. Millions of vehicles on American roads need free recall repairs. To find out if your car is one of them, check the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
