Volkswagen EV Concept teased for CES

Volkswagen announced it will reveal a new concept vehicle at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in January. Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars, indicates this world premiere will "mark the beginning of a new era of affordable long-distance electromobility." The as-yet-unnamed concept is thought to be a variation on VW’s trick Bulli one-off. Originally presently at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show, it has continued to surface periodically as a potential spiritual successor to the iconic Kombi/Microbus. Whatever form it does take, this new super-green machine will be fitted with the latest iteration of VW electric drive tech — hardware/software that could potentially give it a per-charge range in excess of 250 miles.

Diess, who also will deliver the keynote address at this annual gathering in Las Vegas indicates that VW will use the event to demonstrate new innovations in displays, in-car infotainment, networking and connectivity that are "on the verge of being launched onto the market." That includes things like the gesture control system previewed on the Golf R Touch Concept finding their way into production.
