VW Amarok Canyon Concept Billed as a concept, this mid-size pickup is actually a butched-up version of a production truck that sells just about everywhere but the U.S. market. Fender flares, jacked-up suspension, roof-mounted lights, and a gnarly set of Mickey Thompson off-road tires on 18-inch wheels. A 4-cylinder turbodiesel provides power (180 horsepower, 295 pound-feet of torque). Add incandescent Baladi Orange paint and multiple cargo bed tie-downs and you have just the thing for the freestyle kayaker market, according to VW. Volkswagen of North America would love to put the Amarok in U.S. showrooms, but that probably won’t happen until the archaic "chicken tax" duty on imported pickups disappears. |
