VW GTI Cabriolet Convertible versions of VW’s Rabbit and Golf series have been around forever, but in the three decades of the hot rod GTI version there’s been but one, and that one never appeared in U.S. showrooms. Whether this one will make it is an open issue at this point. Aside from more windshield rake, the convertible has all the GTI touches, including the optional 18-inch wheels with their distinctive cuisinart design, Interlagos plaid upholstery, sporty suspension tuning, and 207-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The power cloth top stows itself in just 9.5 seconds, and closes in 11 seconds. |
