Americans lost 659,880 vehicles to theft last year, but there’s a twist: that massive number is actually the lowest recorded in the U.S. in decades. The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) reports that vehicle theft fell by 23% compared to 2024.
Although this shift is promising, the NICB states that a vehicle is still stolen every 48 seconds. Which vehicles were most frequently targeted in 2025? The table below shows the top 10.

Hyundai and Kia vehicles made up 14% of all stolen cars in 2025. Older models from these brands lacked some of the auto industry’s standard anti-theft technology, making them easier targets.
However, Hyundai and Kia have worked to retrofit anti-theft tech into older models and ensure that newer vehicles meet industry standards. As a result, their share of vehicle thefts fell to 14% in 2025, down from 16% in 2024 and 21% in 2023.

- Do not leave your vehicle running unattended.
