Recall Alert: Porsche, Subaru Issue Do-Not-Drive Warnings

Two automakers have issued important do-not-drive warnings for recalls announced this week, urging owners to keep their vehicles parked until repairs can be made.

Porsche: Risk of Wheel Separation

Porsche’s newest recall is an extension of a previous recall first reported in October 2024 that could cause a wheel to detach. A supplier traceability investigation found that an additional 548 vehicles were affected. Affected models include:

  • 2024 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS
  • 2024 Porsche 911 S/T
  • 2024 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS
  • 2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS

The recalled vehicles were built with center-lock wheel fastening components manufactured outside specifications. As a result, the center-locking component could fracture, potentially causing a wheel to detach or reduced steering control.

A detached wheel or loss of steering can increase the risk of a crash. If the center lock fractures, drivers may feel immediate vibration in the steering wheel.

Two field incidents have been reported in connection with this recall, but no injuries have been recorded.

Again, Porsche has advised owners not to drive the recalled vehicles. Dealerships will address this issue by inspecting the center-lock wheel fastening system and replacing any out-of-spec parts. This service will be provided free of charge, as with all recall repairs.

Subaru: Suspension Issue May Cause Loss of Vehicle Control

Subaru issued a recall for the 2026 Crosstrek and Forester models due to a ball joint that may not be securely fastened. Only eight vehicles are included this recall.

The affected vehicles may have been built with a left-hand front lower control arm ball joint castle nut that was not properly tightened. If the castle nut was not tightened to the specified torque, the ball joint could separate from the lower control arm.

A separated ball joint can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. Subaru has stated there may be no warning before the failure occurs.

The company asks owners not to drive the affected vehicles until repairs can be made.

Dealers will inspect the left-hand front lower control arm ball joint assembly and replace any necessary components at no charge. Towing will be provided.

Owner Notification

Planned remedy details will be sent to owners affected by either of these recalls in mid-December.

Porsche owners will also receive a notification by phone, email, and the MyPorsche app within the next one to two weeks advising them of the Stop Drive order.

Millions of cars are recalled, sometimes more than once. While automakers do their best to notify every vehicle owner affected by a recall, they don’t always reach everyone.
