- Tesla plans to wind down Cybertruck production in mid-2027.
- Cybertruck sales have fallen far short of Tesla’s original target.
Tesla will stop building its Cybertruck next year, with production of the polarizing, all-electric truck winding down in mid-2027. Tesla has not shared how long it will continue to provide parts and services to current owners.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the news Friday in a post on X:
“Tesla will be winding down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to make room for increased Cybercab production.”
The decision comes as sales of the model fall significantly short of the company’s original goal of 250,000 trucks a year.
Cybertruck Sales Decline
Tesla does not list Cybertruck sales separately. Instead, the company combines the pickup numbers with sales of “Other Models,” which include the recently discontinued Model S and Model X.
Tesla delivered 8,295 vehicles in that combined vehicle category during the third quarter of 2026, around July to September. That’s down 48% from the same period a year earlier.
Data from Kelley Blue Book parent Cox Automotive estimates that U.S. Cybertruck sales totaled 3,519 trucks in the first quarter of 2026 and 3,744 in the second quarter.
Tesla’s Efforts to Boost Sales
Tesla added a lower-priced rear-wheel-drive (RWD) Cybertruck in 2025 but removed it from the lineup a few months later. The company later offered a less expensive dual-motor version. In August, Tesla raised prices by $5,000, bringing the starting price with dual-motor models to $74,990. When the Cybertruck was first announced back in 2019, the promised starting prices were only $39,900 for the single-motor, $49,900 for the dual-motor, and $69,900 for the tri-motor.
What This Means for Current Owners
Tesla has not said how long it will continue to sell its remaining Cybertruck inventory or replacement parts for current owners. The production change does not mean Tesla will stop servicing existing Cybertrucks. Owners should keep an eye out for updates about future repairs and parts availability.
