Genesis has reportedly shared release details for the upcoming GV90 electric SUV. According to a report in Asia Today, the luxury brand plans to unveil its new flagship electric vehicle (EV) on Sept. 9. The GV90 is expected to be Genesis’ take on a luxury 3-row electric SUV, and could become the brand’s most advanced and expensive vehicle.

The GV90 is expected to sit at the top of the Genesis lineup as a full-size luxury electric SUV.

What We Expect

Early reports suggest the GV90 will incorporate many of the same design elements as the “Genesis Neolun Concept” teased back in 2024. The concept car featured a black-and-dark-blue exterior with smooth lines and two-line lighting. Inside, Genesis paired Royal Indigo cashmere with Purple Silk leather for a bold pop of color.

The Neolun concept also showcased swivel chairs that rotated to face rear passengers, though Genesis is unlikely to bring that feature to production. The more realistic question is whether Genesis will retain the concept’s pillarless coach doors. Features like these often disappear before a vehicle reaches showrooms. However, Genesis has indicated the design may be feasible for a production model, so we’ll have to wait and see.

The GV90 is also expected to debut on a completely new EV platform. Hyundai Motor Group currently uses its E-GMP platform for vehicles such as the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9. The new GV90 could be the first model to use the brand’s newest EV-only platform: the “eM.” The new platform should deliver improvements in efficiency, software capability, and scalability.

Reports suggest that the GV90 could offer battery packs larger than 100 kWh with an improved driving range, but Genesis will likely share final specifications at the time of unveiling.

What Happens Next

Asia Today reported that about 250 GV90 models have been produced at the Ulsan plant in South Korea, and final checks and preparation are currently underway. Mass production will reportedly begin in September.

We’ll know more when Genesis officially reveals the GV90. Stay tuned.
