Toyota is recalling approximately 31,000 2026 RAV4 PHEV vehicles because the plug-in-hybrid system could shut down while driving.

The system’s electronic control unit (ECU) may have faulty software, which could cause the SUV to lose power, increasing the risk of a crash.

Toyota has issued a voluntary safety recall and will notify affected owners by December 2026. Owners will need to take their vehicle to the dealership for a no-cost software update to the ECU. If you have additional questions, Toyota customer support can be reached at 800-331-4331.

Millions of cars are affected by recalls, sometimes more than once. Automakers do their best to notify every vehicle owner affected by a recall, but they might not reach everyone. To check whether your vehicle might be subject to a recall, use the easy tool at our recall center. All you need is your VIN, license plate, or year, make, and model of your car to get started.
