Subaru has recalled about 96,000 cars because their reverse lights and rearview cameras may not work.
The recall affects some, but not all, examples of the:
- 2021 Subaru Crosstrek
- 2021-2023 Subaru Legacy
- 2021-2023 Subaru Outback
- 2022 Subaru Forester
Subaru tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the covers for certain switches may be insufficiently welded, allowing water to get in. That can deactivate the switch, preventing the reverse lights and rearview camera from activating.
Subaru says it knows of no crashes or injuries caused by the problem, but at least 12 owners have brought cars to dealerships for service due to the issue.
Dealers will replace the switch with a properly welded one. Recall repairs are always free.
