Nissan will soon issue a recall for about 6,000 2017-2019 Rogue Hybrid SUVs that may have defective brake boosters.
In documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Nissan explains, “the hydraulic brake booster assembly may overheat internally, resulting in a loss of power brake assist.” While this would leave the brakes with enough power to stop the car, it would increase stopping distance without notifying the driver. That could contribute to an accident.
Nissan hasn’t yet said what dealers will do to correct the problem. “The remedy is under development,” it tells NHTSA.
The fix, when it comes, will be free. Owners can expect to receive a notice in the mail in late September.
Automakers recall many cars to fix safety defects, sometimes more than once. They try to reach every owner to ask them to bring the vehicle in for repair. But they rarely reach them all. Millions of vehicles on American roads need free recall repairs. To find out if your car is one of them, check the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
