Ford Motor Co. is recalling 741,195 vehicles due to a rollaway risk when parked. Affected vehicles are:

Certain park system components may be damaged, resulting in unintended movement while in Park. Warnings include a wrench light in the instrument cluster and an automatic application of the electronic parking brake. All of these vehicles have roll-away detection, but if the vehicle is powered down, the powertrain control module (PCM) may not be awake enough to detect movement.

According to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, so far there are 24 allegations of property damage and nine alleged injuries related to the issue.

Owners will be notified to take their vehicle into a dealer to have the PCM updated with the latest software. The park system will also be inspected for damaged components, and those will be replaced as necessary. There is no charge for this service.

Millions of cars are recalled, sometimes more than once. While automakers do their best to notify every vehicle owner affected by a recall, they don’t always reach everyone. To check whether your vehicle might be subject to a recall, use the easy tool at our recall center. All you need is your VIN, license plate, or year, make, and model of your car to get started.
