Mercedes-Benz has recalled 16 CLA electric vehicles (EVs) from model year 2026 due to a malfunction that can cause the front seat belt to lock and become unusable. Affected models include:
- 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA 350 4MATIC
- 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA 250+
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that when drivers enable the child seat safety function, the front passenger seat belt locks. If a passenger cannot fasten their seat belt, it can create legal and safety issues.
In these vehicles specifically, deactivating the child seat safety lock may not be possible, which means the locking of the front passenger seat belt cannot be reversed.
Mercedes-Benz dealerships will fix this issue by replacing the front passenger seat belt. The seat belt designs for these models have been updated, so this issue doesn’t affect models produced from Nov. 17, 2025, onward.
The company will notify owners with affected vehicles before June 30. As with all recall repairs, the fix is free.
Millions of cars are recalled, sometimes more than once. While automakers do their best to notify every vehicle owner affected by a recall, they don’t always reach everyone. To check whether your vehicle might be subject to a recall, use the easy tool at our recall center. All you need is your vehicle identification number (VIN), license plate, or year, make, and model of your car to get started.
